The cop only made note of the event, so with his breaking of rules (if he has) in the teaching moment for the punk vet, I think his superiors ought to only make note.

Hopefully the kid learned a lesson.

Playing the man card may take things out of the normal social arena.

    If he has?? Teaching moment??

The only lesson the "kid" should have learned is that some (NOT ALL, NOT BY A LONG SHOT) law enforcement officers are not there to protect OR serve. Playing a man card is no excuse whatsoever for a law enforcement officer to act in such a manner. You can't, as a LEO, "take things out of the normal social arena" just because you get pissed off and want to show what a man you are. If that's all the restraint the officer has, then he has no business with a badge.

Could have talked him down, he obviously was upset as would anybody. He was out of line but the officer should have handled it different for sure.

Guess he felt the kid, as a vet, was worth the risk of job loss due to teaching method.

And a lawsuit? If he wants to step out of LEO uniform and beat the kid to a pulp, go for it, and be prepared to suffer those consequences as well, but there is NO excuse for that kind of thing on the clock as a LEO. As I said, if he can't control himself he shouldn't have a badge.
