It's pretty common to see someone out there with a dueling tree or some other type of reactive metal target.

As long as the steel swings, they are OK with it. Shot steel myself there several times.

I belong to the Elwood club and shoot steel regularly. I have 4 steel 8" AR500 targets that I hang from shepards hooks and use rimfires and centerfire handguns on.
