While I am not an employee of Eagle Creek, I do know that there has been a change in the time schedule. They now close early, about 1:00 PM. This is due to scheduling determined by Metro Police. Remember, the range is mainly a police training range and they allow the public to use it on weekends IF it fits their schedule.
I will PM some people and see if they could update the website as to hours.

    To all:

I have noticed a few things at the range here lately, some of which may need to be addressed, both at our range and maybe even others.

    1. We have more and more shooters, mostly new ones, showing up. This is GREAT! :rockwoot: However, it is becoming more and more difficult to get folks to follow the basic range rules. Please note: When we call cold, NO HANDLING OF FIREARMS. I do not care if it is unloaded (which it should be anyways if we are cold) or what you are doing with it, it is still handling of a gun. I have told many folks about when they are packing up, to wait until we are hot again. I am going to enforce that more so now. If I ask you once or tell you once, further infractions will result in me escorting you to the door. We are about safety.

Yup, my pet peeve too. Trust me this isn't just at Eagle Creek. And it's not just new shooters.

    How hard is this really?

That would be Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, so probably not.

    Nice eye shot, though.

DH, you said no US political figures. Would that include certain gun-grabbing non-politicians at certain non-governmental organizations? :D
I once got told at a range that I could not use a photo of Sarah Brady as a target. Pity, that.

BTW.. I like the rules you're posting and enforcing. Ref: cold range means hands off, I can see how that would be a problem in the event that a shooter thought he'd fired his last round but had merely chambered it instead. Much better to keep the line clear until the 180 is re-established.

    Blessings,
    Bill

I like the rules you listed. I ventured into the formal rifle range arena this last weekend after 16 years of having a private range or using informal ranges without R/Os. It was interesting and took a little bit to get used to. One of the guys that was with me had just returned from a school in Vermont on mountain shooting (training for Afganistan) he has been an R/O in the Army and Marines, he made more mistakes than I did...lol. The R/Os were cool and kept us in line. I did have a problem with all the little kids running around and playing just behind the shooters on the rifle range. Not cool! I have a daughter and there is no way I would let her do that.

    Couple things:

Our schedule is 10-4PM, Saturday and Sunday, unless something comes up. Always check our website for the most up to date information. Calling the range can be hit or miss, usually no one at the phone to answer it (gotta watch the line) but the message is usually updated *BUT* the website always is.

I want to apologize on public forum for closing early on 9.25, we had no one show up for a long time, so we determined the day finished. We usually don't accept new shooters after 3.30 (1530) as it only leaves them a half hour to shoot (even a 10 visit pass punch isn't worth a half hour). We closed early that day and are sorry to shut out a few folks. The best times for shooting are usually at opening, we have been swamped lately due to new shooters and just the sheer amount of them lately. If coming "late", it is always better to show up an hour before we close up for the day, if allows you a bit more time than half an hour. We generally dont "stay after" 4.00.

You CAN load DETACHABLE magazines on the line during cold. Please do not handle any firearms. Revolver cylinders, internal box magazines and magazine tubes are integral to the gun and therefore CANNOT be loaded while cold (believe me, I have to say this, folks have questioned me on this!).

No non-gun NGO political figures either. Please understand that we are a family and safety range, I understand that Brady is a (explitive deleted) but it is VERY low road to be shooting a picture of someone like that. Beat them in the political arena instead. Now, pictures of Osama Bin Laden, Zombies and other creatures of the night are okay. :D Pictures of Vern (Disposable Heart) are also acceptable, however, why shoot a pic when you have the real thing? :D

All great things to know about the range. Before my current handgun and when I lived in Montana, there were not a whole lot of "ranges" that I went to...and actually did not shoot that much, but this is all great info to know since I am going to become a gun range member in NC soon :)

The #1 infraction at the Atterbury range is handling a firearm, or any other item during a cease fire. Shooters are told twice by loud speaker before each cease fire.We still have people approach the shooting bench and pick up targets or other items from the bench.

And how is doing the above a safety violation?

Cease fire, going cold, means no handling of firearms, nothing more.
The announcement says You may go forward to change targets, DO NOT handle any firearms or touch anything on or near the shooting benches. Stand behind the yellow safety line when you return. This is a site specific DNR range rule for this range. It is a safety violation for this range.

Eagle Creek is not a DNR range. This topic is about Eagle Creek. I don't care how DNR ranges are run. Even though I didn't start this thread, I am the Rangemaster at Eagle Creek, and have a vested interest in this thread.

Sorry if I hijacked YOUR thread. Looks like a few of your posts are a little off topic. I knew that eagle creek wasn't a DNR range. Don't care what your status is on the range. Was just trying to answer BIGCRAIG'S question. Sorry if that was out of line.
