    To all:

I have noticed a few things at the range here lately, some of which may need to be addressed, both at our range and maybe even others.

    1. We have more and more shooters, mostly new ones, showing up. This is GREAT! :rockwoot: However, it is becoming more and more difficult to get folks to follow the basic range rules. Please note: When we call cold, NO HANDLING OF FIREARMS. I do not care if it is unloaded (which it should be anyways if we are cold) or what you are doing with it, it is still handling of a gun. I have told many folks about when they are packing up, to wait until we are hot again. I am going to enforce that more so now. If I ask you once or tell you once, further infractions will result in me escorting you to the door. We are about safety.

    2. I was asked 4 times, FOUR! if folks could post pictures of "certain political figures" on the target holder. I understand some folks are very consternated regarding the election and current political turmoil (as am I), HOWEVER, I cannot and WILL NOT sanction such action. We are an entity of IndyParks, therefore, the city and state of Indianapolis and Indiana repectively. We also have many firearms enthusiasts (some new shooters or "on the fence" regarding guns in general) and families come to shoot. We will not allow you to post any pictures on the target holders of US political figures (notice I said US :D ). That behavior may be allowed or even condoned at your buddy's farm, but not a public area like our range. We are in the struggle of a lifetime for gun rights, let's get on track.

    3. Lots of families showing up (once again, GREAT STUFF! :) ) and kids bringing Airsoft guns. No problems there, heck, I think they are better than .22s because they don't spew hard to pick up brass :D (I kid). But, while the airsoft guns are considered toys to most, they are considered firearms the instant they hit our range. Please, teach your kids basic gun handling and help them understand our range rules. That airsoft gun may be a real gun one day, do you want them learning its okay to point it at someone? Also, we have had lots of well mannered kids, but please understand: Shooting IS a family time, but pay attention to your children as well as your firearms. We dont want any kids or parents getting hurt.

Other than that, thanks for everyone showing up to shoot, please see us sometime! Remember: $20 per person for a WHOLE day of shooting, or a 10 visit pass for $65 (that's 6.50 a visit, per person, whole day of shooting and doesn't expire!!!).

+ 1 to you for reminding of the all important rules.
Firearms require respect at all times regardless if real or a toy.
Most here understand weapon safety but even a friendly reminder never hurts.
All good points, well presented. Hope to see you sometime, the price is right.

OK, stupid n00b question, but I was wondering about this very situation, so I have to ask.

Isn't packing up "handling a gun during a cold range"?
I realized when I was there that I packed up during a cold ranger, but then thought maybe I shouldn't have, because I was handling the gun during a cold range.

Would you mind clarifying a bit? Thanks!

When I shoot at Kingsbury when the range is cold =don't touch .When range is clear to fire , thats when I pick up and pack the firearms . Don't handle to me means don't handle at least in my thoughts . Whats a few extra minutes to put away the stuff.

Is there a range procedures document anywhere online for Eagle Creek? The website shows rules, but it's more what types of guns/calibers are allowed or not and general rules as opposed to explaining when it's okay to pack up your guns or when it's okay to enter the range or how often/long the range is hot/cold or etc. etc.

All great points! I actually witnessed the range officer (probably the thread owner?) stopped a person (two guys together, actually) handling their guns while there were people down range. Accidents happen when we are not paying attention...

I only wish Eagle Creek would stay open the hours that are posted, 10a to 4p. Last time I went there (9/27/09), the range was shut down and closed, at 3:20p when I arrived there. There was another guy there also wanting to shoot. I guess there'd been a long idle time and the officers decided to close early. Well, it now takes me 30 minutes to drive there, since I moved last month. I ended up going to Pop Guns (and paid extra) to fire a few shots down range to cure my itch...
