Another sign of the times. A man is attacked by a mob of teens at a Memphis gas station for having the audacity to escort a woman to her car.

The woman said she was scared to go back to her car with the group of teens in the parking lot. This man volunteered to walk her back to her car. When he told the teens to act right, they jumped him. They didn't even seem to care he had a 3 month old baby with him.

He was armed, and showed great restraint not shooting any of them.

Gave a lot of thought as to how to handle this.
Not much of a way to avoid a beat down but getting a-hold of one securely by the neck and hanging on so LEO has one to grab seems appropriate.

These kids will likely get a slap on the wrist and be out beating someone else in a month.

Edit: An adult should be able to ask a group of teenagers to behave, but those days are over and that was his mistake. I'm not saying he "deserved it", not in the least. I'm saying we have to decide when we get involved and whether or not it does any good. Walking the woman to her car was one thing. Trying to speak authoritatively to a bunch of thugs was a mistake.

The concept we have of "teenager" is a real problem. I was reading the book "Love Languages of Teenagers" . There is a section in there where he discusses that "teenager" is a modern invention. People used to begin entering adult responsibility when they were 14. Teenager has perhaps become "college life" taken to the extreme: no responsibility, but expecting the freedom of a responsible adult. What's worrisome is that even when they use their size and beat people like this, they get treated like a 2 year old.

I don't know. He's black (I say that only in reference to the media) and he had an infant with him. He could have easily been knocked out or killed with that many people hitting him. I'm afraid my protective instincts for my child would have kicked in.

It is a sad day when race etc becomes a part of defending your self. I was putting myself in his shoes without the baby. I will defend a child at all costs.
If you run you are done. Stand your ground and you have a chance as most of these Mob turds do not want to get hit. Bust a few up if you can and maybe get away with little damage.

I feel he would have been justified in using his weapon in this situation. Dozens of attackers and he's got a 3 month old baby in the car, that seems like a deadly situation to me. I would guess the rest would have scattered after a couple of gunshots, but who knows.

Pepper spray would have been your friend at the time. They would have been rolling around on the ground long enough for the police to show up. Like CM said earlier, just take a couple down and they will run like they saw a turd in a swimming pool. Thats how cowards operate.
