Let me tell you, it's easy to do, especially if you are excited about shooting your dream gun! notice my sig line? This was at the 7.62 shoot in Bloomington this year... someone, don't remember who it was, had brought my personal dream weapon, an H&K MP5kSD, I was so excited about getting to shoot it full auto that I inadvertantly grabbed a tray of .380's... couldn't figure out why the damn thing wouldn't chamber!

Why would anyone purposely shoot the incorrect ammo out of their gun?

Survival, Evasion, and Escape. Or maybe it was Air Crew survival.

I can't find the Field Manual. I think it was a Army FM, but it could have been a Air Force FM.

All kinds of expedient weapons and a chart for alternative ammo in desperate situations.

I've got all three - 9mm (9x19), .380 ACP (9x17), and 9x18 Makarov. I'll admit, I've never tried to shoot .380 from 9mm, although I guess it would work. I did alot of reading and shot .380 through the 9mm Mak and it worked for one magazine. :) I don't think I'd try it on a regular basis, but it seemed safe enough.

I've also never thought of trying the 9x18 in the 9x19.... Alot has to do with the specs of the gun, and how much energy it needs to eject.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT FIRE 9x18 OUT OF A 9x19!

The bullet diameter of a 9x18 is 0.363 and the bullet diameter of a 9x19 is a 0.356. It's stupidity like this that leads to people hurting themselves and ending up on the news.

How many of you here are stuck behind enemy lines right now?

    Excellent advice!

The only reason I tried the .380 through the Mak was after looking at that kind of stuff. :)

Kids - don't try this at home!

I think you mean, it's stupid ideas like this that leads to people hurting themselves. I never said I did it or was going to. I asked what would happen and if it was possible. :yesway:

Your gun would most likely kaboom if you tried. You're welcome to do it, just make sure you get it on video and post it on YouTube. ;)
