    Gun Safety Facts

Some of you have probably seen this before but I think it needs to be more widely circulated:

    US Gun Statistics
    Various Sources
    2-2-5
    (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
    (B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
    (C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services)

    Guns
    (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
    Yes, that is 80 million.

    (B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
    (C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

I have worked in the medical field for nearly 17 years and can tell you it's true. Doctors are nothing more than mechanics that work on a different machine. They're just men and women that have the same strenghts, weaknesses, insecurities, and temptations as you or me. Plenty of dumb-asses in white lab coats so research you doctor well.

Yeah, between affirmative action and grade inflation, I have ZERO expectations of competence in any medical "professional".

EGADS! What if your lawyer is a gun owner?!

My wife is both a lawyer and a gun owner... should I be worried?
Do the guns make her less of a threat?

:dunno:Although I find this little "statistical numbers game" humorous, I hope that all of you take a good look at how these "facts" are portrayed. I am not sure where the number of accidental deaths via doctor came from, but it is most certainly lumped with other statistics. I would imagine that the person who came up with this is including deaths caused by hospital bourne infections, prescription med reactions, and many other deaths that are not neccessarily related soley to a doctor. If we were to include all of these sources of accidental medical deaths, then it would only be fair to add nurses, pharmacists, pharmaceutical execs, etc. to the numbers. I would assume that the numbers would work out quite differently. If I get a chance, perhaps I will post statistical study that is not misleading and has the sources cited.

It never ceases to amaze me how people are so quick to jump on a "study" without researching the facts, simply because it fits into their personal agenda:twocents:
