near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
To all who have responded thus far:

I then considered what Burl said, that perhaps this was due to attitude. I think perhaps he is on to something here.
    Blessings,
    Bill

To a degree I think this also applies to where you live as well. Lots of people think that a change of job/location/partner will make them happy and for a few that may be true, but for many they'll be unhappy with the change because they are unhappy in general.

So I was talking to someone on the phone yesterday and something she said got me thinking. She told me that she, her husband, and both of her adult sons are in situations where they don't like what they do... to the point that her sons might take a job, but even so, are always looking for something else. All of the men she mentioned are professional people with graduate degrees and she is a teacher... I'm not sure if she went for a Masters or not.

My first response was, "How sad!" I couldn't and still can't wrap my head around even seeking, let alone accepting a job I hated badly enough to be immediately and constantly looking for something else while I did it.

Then I got to wondering, so I'm going to pose the above question to INGO: Please respond with the type of work and whether you enjoy it or not, and how many years you've done it. I am aware that some of you are very public about your jobs. If you want to answer and don't want to post, I promise confidentiality if you PM

    Blessings,
    Bill

I I don't like my job. I work for a utility construction company. I took the job because I was going broke in the teaching profession. I make by the middle of July what an experienced teacher makes in a year.

My task is to drive a robot from the control booth of a utility trailer. It's not hard work. It's a lot of time in front of computer monitors with a PS controller in hand or repairing the robot. It uses cameras and a radio transmitter to map the location and depth of buried utilities. The problem is that the kind of people my work attracts aren't real upstanding. I've got eight bosses and maybe one of them isn't a total pass the buck douchebag. If I have any talent, the job is a waste of it. I do it because I'm a whore and I like to be able to afford food and some modest Christmas presents. There are maybe 4 or 5 other people I work with who give a crap about doing a good job out the 150-170 who work in my area. at night I remind myself that my pride doesn't matter, no opinion anyone ever has of me will matter. The only solace is that, if something unthinkable happens to me tomorrow, and least whatever sorry sack gets guilted by my mother into giving a eulogy can say, "Well, Huff didn't amount to s#!+ but at least he helped keep a roof over his kid's head and Popsicles in her belly."

Armed security. I hate it. Pay is ****. No benefits. Training is mediocre. Getting new uniforms is a PITA. Staying professional while being surrounded by idiots is the worst part. One person complains about one guard doing something idiotic and everybody gets another crash course on the topic. If you work at the same site for more than a year you're either lucky or doing something right.
