I keep forgetting to get more AK mags.

Eh, I'd rather have more PMags. I like to put them in a huge pile, spray Hoppe's on it, and roll around buck nekkid in the mixture.

Did I mention that magazines wear out?
Remind me never to handle any of your mags.

I was lucky enough to stock up on a few in the past couple months. I recently cleaned out the remaining pmags at a great gun shop who didn't over charge for them and felt guilty for leaving none on the pegs but I asked and they said they had more in the back. Waiting in line to pay for them another customer joked and asked if I was stocking up.. Guess who is laughing now...

I keep waiting for someone to start a pmag porn pic thread.. lol

So, like the post says, do we really need all these magazines?

I go to the range, I have an AK and 5 30 round mags. I take care of them and they aren't going into battle, so I think they'll be OK for a number of years. I'm not seeing a need for more. I shoot a couple of mags, take a break and shoot some more soon thereafter.

I have numerous Glock and Sig mags for my Glock and Sig guns...I have more .45 single stack for my Kimber than I have for my Glock and Sigs simply because I've gotten a great deal on extra mags and loading 8 rounds over and over is a pain in the dupa.

With this new approaching "AWB" and the threat of losing out on the availability of purchasing them, we are seeing a buying frenzy.

Like the hard to get toys at Christmas and the post 9/11 anthrax scare, are we just unnecessarily hoarding because we have this built in instinct to have what we cannot get?

    What say you, INGO-ers?

If you don't need them, don't buy them. I don't buy during panic buys because that only fuels price gouging. I will buy magazines that I don't "need" if they're at a great price.

When I moved up to Indiana a couple of years ago, I dumped all my magazines into a 50 gallon cardboard shipping barrel, I filled that barrel to the top - wish I had taken a pic now, the ultimate mag porn pic.

Oh and also picked up ten Korean 40 rounders for my AR (da poodle shooter) for like 60 bucks about two months back, maybe I should have gotten more!

Whenever someone else gets into the business of what I "need", my tyranny light starts flashing.

I decide what I need sometimes based upon what I want. I'm the ultimate authority on what I need and want, unless God somehow tells me otherwise, which sometimes I'm pretty sure he does! :D

...oh, and then there's my wife. ;)

Magazines are consumables. If you train (and you should be) with your guns then you will consume magazines. And as with any consumable, I'd like to have some in reserve.

Show me a guy with 2 pristine magazines and I'll show you a "collector".

    This^^^^^
There's a difference between "going to the range" and training. It has nothing to do wit a percieved "need". BTW, I also have a spare tire in case one of the other 4 wears out.

Why not? Are a lot of people panic buying, yes. I buy when I can. I have plenty of magazines loaded and ready to go if I had to abandon my apartment.

What kind of magazines and what kind of training are you guys doing where mags are 'consumables'? If your mags are getting so banged up as to be unusable, maybe its time to try a different brand.

Springs and followers wear, but the actual mag body?

I train with steel GI mags and use P-mags for actual carry. I've yet to damage a GI to the point it wouldn't function. Ditto for steel AK mags.

    i have close to 100 H & K G-3 mags & I'll buy more if the price is right;)

Well now THIS I can understand, I once saw people selling them for a buck each.

But how many damn mags do you really need?

Just get enough for your load bearing equipment plus two or three extra.

For my M14, that means 6 or 7.

Because a well regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free state.

Also keep in mind that not everyone that is "panic buying" already has a pile at home... many people have wanted to own AR15s and Ak47/74s, but always put off buying them... now that they realize they may not be able to purchase them in the future, many folks are attempting to purchase what they already wanted.
