Congratulations on stereotyping an entire generation based of nothing other than what you think you know about it. You didn't state that you had kids or not, if you do, did they grow up on Ren & STIMPY* or BEAVIS and Butthead*? You're just like the old ladies that are afraid to even look at me or let me hold a door for them.

Stop generalizing an entire generation based off what's either around you or what you believe is going on in the Military. I am 23 years old, Ex Army 31B with 2 boys and a wife. I grew up on self-discipline since my loser father from YOUR generation is and was nothing but a douchebag retired NYPD bent on power.

I am not the exception of my generation because there are many other like me, disgusted by the stereotype we face on a day to day basis from everyone. Let's get something straight on the Military, blame your government for the current state of the Military. Almost FORCING people to enlist as a last resort, giving them the option instead of going to jail or juvenile detention.

I watched Beavis and Butthead as a kid, I also watch Family Guy everyday and have not missed an episode. I am loyal and I have humility, I am a father and a damned good one in my own opinion. You're judging people based of the TV shows that they watch lol..Every generation has it's faults, including 25% of the prison population littered with folk from your own generation.

I also happen to enjoy the History channel, Military channel, Animal planet and porn..any other nonsense you'd like to spew about this generation? With all due respect anyway, Seargent.

Let's not thread jack this. He said that there are some squared away folks and some less so. He didn't say that every member of your generation was a waste of skin. Wait till you're forty and tell us how freakin' annoying the generation after yours is. It's the same for the generation before.

I'm an ex LEO. When I first quit I tried not carrying. I thought I was just going to relax and be a citizen again and not worry. It didn't work. I kept noticing potential threats and suspicious people. I couldn't go back to the mindset of being a sheep.

None of the former military members in my family carry and only one of the members of my local VFW and Am Legion carry handguns. The one vet that does carry just got his license last month.

I have been in Law enforcement for 20 year and a trainer for the last 13 and allot of LEO's are not necessarily gun guys, I would say maybe 1 in 10 are and allot don't even bother to carry off duty, It does not make any sense to me but to each their own!! I will not leave my destiny with someone else!!

I am not directing this at you personally however, if you are offended by my input Get over it!!! As I stated there are some squared away people and some not so squared away. If you are squared away then the experience I relayed should not bother you. And wether you grew up with or without a Father, your not the first person to have it hard. If that made you strong and self sufficiant then good for you! Yes every generation has there P.O.S's. There were people in prison, not taking care of thier kids or paying bills before our grandparents were born and will be after our grandchildren are gone.

If you spent anytime at all trying to balance the requirements of administraition types that rewrite and gut firearms and use of force training materials(at the DOD level)
and at the same time trying to prepare troops for the worst they me face when the majority either are not sqaured away or beleive what they see is real while playing X box. And that seems to be more across the board norm with "most" of the young people we see.

And yes I have my own kids. One that is older than you and one that is younger. And they did not watch those cartoons or porn or do so today so I guess I must have been bent on power too!

Most military members perform support functions (career fields) while they are in. So the usually do not decide to "carry" when they leave the military. I have generally seen a large number of military police types not carry after they become civillians. Some people are just not into it or just don't think about it. like everything it comes down to the person but alot more former military than you think decide not to carry!

This wasn't the case for me. While I wasn't in near your time I did see the range a lot, run ranges ect. The attitude that I saw for 90% of decent soldiers was that they took firearm training seriously. Granted I was in a Combat Brigrade, but it was a non infantry Battalion that I spent most of my time in.

From 2000-2008 while I was in, training especially weapon systems training, was a priority. Every one knew how to work all available weapon systems, even if we had to barrow the weapon system from another battalion because our battalion did not carry the weapon system.

Most of the people I was deployed with do not carry. Most of them did not join the military because they wanted to play with guns while serving their country like I did though. I have a feeling that most of them didn't see it as a weapon, but as a tool. As a result, they do not carry. It would be like a former carpenter carrying a hammer to them I guess.

To those that said "decaf" and to relax or what have you, I am relaxed, always. I see/hear and am a victim of the SAME stereotype he referenced and to browse a forum and see the same thing just hits home and I give the same speech to the people that are afraid of me because of my age or appearance.

I am ex Army MP and just applied for my Lifetime LTCH because I just moved to Indiana. (To answer the whole "do ex mp's carry" question anyway)

Whether your kids did not and still do not watch those cartoons or porn is irrelevant because you'd be unwilling to speak about your parenting practices and it's not a place for a forum anyway. My guess the response would be something silly along the lines of "because I raised them right" which is also irrelevant.

I watched them, still do and will whenever I please because it's a free country for now and I'll do what I want since I work hard to do so everyday. Your kids are no better than anyone else for not watching porn or those particular cartoons lol, and I only state that because you say it with some sense of pride.

Another stereotype about being hard on kids to do the right thing. I played Grand Theft Auto when it first came out, as well as any other game involving guns and murder and blood and I never shot up a school..you know who did though? Kids raised in wonderful homes with EVERYTHING they ever wanted.

At the end of the conversation, I thank science that I wasn't your kid lol "NO XBOX! NO TV! GO MOW THE LAWN AND BE SOMEBODY!". Yeah that's right, I said science, but we won't get into why I didn't thank "god" :P

I'm former Army infantry and I carry. I didn't see the worst of the world, but I did see Hopkinsville, KY. and Columbus, GA.:D

that statement is very close to contradicting itself.

If that ain't the truth, I don't know what is. Might as well throw Fayetteville, NC on the list as well.

Also former Military (US Army 18B) and I carry. No one that I served with does, however. At least none of the ones I keep in touch with.

I was flabbergasted when a LEO friend of mine said "I am off duty, I don't carry unless they are paying me to carry" :n00b:

I didn't carry off duty for several years after becoming a police officer, it wasn't that unusual years ago. 4-5 of us would be out and maybe 2-3 would have a gun with them.
