Tangential question. Does anybody know if a mass shooter/murderer has ever built his own weapon from component parts? I'm not aware of any.

Do any of the stupid rules they bring up really apply? NO! they don't. Doesn't stop them from bringing them up over and over.

There was that one guy who had a couple black powder pistols and an AR upper receiver.

But that looked like a plant by some 3 letter agency to stir up the media more than anything else, to me.

Surprisingly the terminology is not stunningly ignorant. Just the premise.

Also surprised Pete Visclosky (D, IN) is not listed

    Their definition is very broad

    (1) A firearm receiver casting or firearm receiver blank that—

    (A) at the point of sale does not meet the definition of a firearm in section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code; and

    (B) after purchase by a consumer, can be completed by the consumer to the point at which such casting or blank functions as a firearm frame or receiver for a semiautomatic assault weapon or machine gun.

Couldn't that be any piece of metal?
