I have been finishing up stuff to keep in my car for an emergency as well as a get home bag in case of disaster while on the road. As of late, I have been thinking more about adding a Mossberg to the trunk so that I always have a long gun to get home with if needed. Normally, I will have my pistol on me always and it is much more discreet than carrying a shotgun down the road or through woods while trying to get home. My main question is whether most people think it would be better to have a long gun while giving up being discreet or better just to stick to the pistol and sacrifice extra defense/offense ability? Personally, I feel that I would rather avoid conflict and stay out of sight as much as possible but worry about giving up the long gun.

All input is appreciated and as always....Thanks

How about a Sub 2000? Folding gun means that you can be both discreet and have a carbine as needed. A bonus, if you carry a glock, is they can share magazines.

You could always pick up a Draco AK pistol and have rifle power in a small package and you could carry extra mags .

That is an interesting idea as is the other suggestions. I am really trying to decide which is best and the pack I am switching to is the large ALICE pack from a smaller backpack. When I meant discreet heading home I meant on foot if I have to abandon the car just ot clear up any misunderstanding.

im not going to tell you what to put or not put in your trunk (ewww that sounded bad).

i will say if you have to leave your vehicle, yes you will want to take with you any weapons that are in it. Its perfectly legal to carry a long gun, so who cares about being discreet if you have no choice. if anything it will probly get you help faster by getting the police called, lol. remember not to have it (long gun) loaded while walking down the road.
and never sacrifice security for ANY REASON! just my personal opinion

Careful about keeping things like the Draco AK in the car. If anyone borrows the car that doesn't have an LTCH, they're in violation of state law. Better to have a true long gun, which includes things like the sub2000, which don't require a license to transport them.

Have both and if S ever HTF in your lifetime, you will be able to make a decision on the spot and live with it for the rest of your life. :)

Great point....I didn't even think of that.

a short(with-in legal limits) shotty would be a handy escort for your handgun. it could be slung about your shoulder and even strapped to your pack for quick access. its discreet enought that noone could see it from a distance and if the SHTF noone will be getting close enough to me anyhow. i say keep it in the trunk just in case, just cycle the ammo.

A Sub 2000 would be great....if one could be had. I've been looking for a Glock 22 model for months. None of the shops around town have them and the few online shops I trust are always out of stock.

Kel-tec's expanding product line is killing supply.

If it's in the trunk unloaded would it matter?

:+1:for the Sub 2000. If you do get a Sub 2000, check to make sure you're getting the correct mag style. They are available with Beretta, Glock or S&W 99 mags.

e5ranger i think you missed the main one. unless your going to and from the range to shoot it :) the stipulation as i know it is the ammo has to be separate from the gun. another words the gun would need to be in the trunk and the ammo and magazines would need to be in a bag in the bag seat which shouldn't bother you at all if its strictly for a shtf situation. but i still like the shotgun better anywho or the keltec wouldn't be a bad route especially if you carry a glock that you can interchange mags with
