I can undersstand the shelves being empty due to all the panic buying. I don't understand the long lead times for restocking those shelves.

The ammo companies are still churning out ammo every day, right? Somebody has to be taking delivery of the tens of thousands of 22LR being made every day.......And that is just one caliber.

Somebody has to be buying it all up.

Thats what Im wondering too. Where is all the .22lr going? I visit about 5 different shops every few days and none ever have any .22 or even say they have gotten any lately.

DHS? I wonder if production of .22 has been cut back to increase production of other calibers--5.56, .40S&W, whatever else the gov't wants.

Yes I am surprised. I am 38 years old. I have been through the Brady bill and every other gun scare since somewhere around 1980. And not once in all that time have I been UNABLE to buy ammo for a dang .22
Handgun and .223 ammo I expected. Not this.

Guess who wasn't President during all the other scares?

LOL @ Kevin. Fair enough brother. And jcwit you make a good point. I know the brass people have to be freaking ecstatic right now. I wonder what ammo manufacturers are paying per pound? Someone told me the military has some contract with the chinese where we have agrred to sell them all our spent brass. Anyone know if there is any validity to that?

+1 to Jdude for helping out a fellow shooter. Appreciate it a lot man. And thanks to Jetgirl for her offer as well. All in all I would say what started out as just kind of a generalized complaint has turned into a pretty cool experience. Makes me really glad I joined INGO :)

Anderson duhnams had a few boxes of bulk pack golden bullets tuesday, but I havent been back so I cant tell ya if its still there. I have always kept a pretty ample supply of 22 on hand, I have a 13 year old with a happy trigger finger, and I have found its cheaper and faster than reloading my other calibers, so its a great way to keep me shooting when I dont have time to reload the other stuff.

Ok did I miss the memo? Did the zombie apocalypse start without me? I went to 5 (yes 5) different places today. In AUburn,IN I went to Bieber's shot and sinker, Dunham's Sports, Wal-Mart, Mile Corner gun store, and The Angler in Helmer,IN. What was I looking for you may ask? Oh just ONE lousy box of .22LR ammunition so I could go get some shooting in this weekend. I knew not to expect any .45 ACP ammo but damn even .22? All 5 places were COMPLETELY empty of .22LR/ .45ACP/ 9MM/ .40S&W/ and of course .223. The guy at Mile Corner told me it was a 2 month wait minimum on ANY of the above mentioned calibers. WTF?

.22LR is right up there with .223/5.56 as far as impossible to find. even anything online is gone in a matter of minutes. insanity.

I bought 4000 rds at a Walmart in Nevada when I was out there for SHOT. It was the only non Golden Bullet I've seen in months.....

Really? Am going out to NV for a biz trip later this week... would you say the availability is better out there than here? May need to spend less time in the casino and more in WalMart out there...

    ammo shortage

With everyone running scared and buying any and all ammo in sight you also have the government ordering 1.5 billion rounds for the next couple years. Makes you wonder why all these government agencies are ordering so much ammo. You know they already have a big supply so why so much more?

I havent bought any ammo in a couple years. After reading and hearing about the shortage ,I decided to drop by a couple stores yesterday, while I was out. One store was completely out of guns.(Not one in sight) The other had several boxes of odd ball loads.
For the heck of it ,I asked if they had any .22lr ammo. They just laughed. They both said the supply woulld start coling in in a couple months.
Reloading componets are what I've been looking for and tere just as scarce. Prices are outragous for what what I wanted to buy too. Abox of 50 325 gr Hornady .458 was 26.00 a box ,now there 29.00. thats buying by the case. I didnt buy any, because I'm low om 4198 powder, and theres none to be found either. I did get put on a list for 4198 and Varget. We'll see what happens.
I have penty of primers and brass for 458 but no bullets. Have plenty of bullets for 5.56 but no brass, Have plenty of .308 brass but no bullets or powder. Guess I should be happy with what I do have.
I think all these stores ,see what people are willing to pay for ammo and componets and prices will probibly never get back to normal.

    Ammo Shortage

Ok again panic in the good ole USA this time by Uncle Sugar. My take on it is FEAR FEAR FEAR. First off it is a food chain - US Gubment - Homeland Security - The Big Police - The Local Police - Then it's the well regulated militia, that's us. Yup bottom of the food chain 1st to go last to know. Start reloading, don't go nuts but start reading and collecting stuff unless you would like to revisit this again in the future. We learn from history, I remember previous times with a shortage and the panic of "sane" people 3 hours after 911. Fighting for milk bread eggs and gas to get home. No worries about the other people doing the same thing. PANIC PANIC me first but really who needs the french toast that bad you know - milk eggs and bread. We need to remember we are all in this together at the bottom of the food chain. :dunno:

Today, I was at the Meijer store in Fishers and was taking a look at the ammo case. A group Meijer executives were in the store from corporate and stopped to talk with me. Asked if I needed help and I responded I was curious what was left or available in the case. They remarked about how everything is out of stock. Then one women exec told me the word is late May or June until the Meijer ammo stock would be back to near normal with everything they usually carry will be on hand.

Does any one know of an online retailer that still has .45? I ordered practice ammo from Natchez about 8 months ago and I'm about out. They had a huge stock of Remington nickel plated case and Remington leadless (I know it's not true leadless, but it was $16 for 50 rounds). Looks like the prices doubled on those two boxes as well. Not looking for carry ammo as I still have a good stock of Winchester PDX1.

Thankfully I have three bulk packs of .22LR from when I picked up my rifle and several thousand .45 ACP bullets, 8 pounds of powder, several thousand primers, and plenty of cases to re-use ;).

I didn't really 'stock' up for any reason beyond the fact that I simply don't like going to the store to buy stuff every time I want to shoot.

Now simply is not a good time to pick up a new caliber nor is it a good time to shoot through whatever you happen to have if you enjoy shooting. Ration yourself out on what you have.
