Dedicated 22 ARs

I will soon be receiving another stripped lower and I've been thinking about building a 22lr AR. I really don't know much about the complete uppers and what to look for as far as quality or what the "normal" price should be. Any input would be appreciated brand,twist rate, price etc. Thanks

I highly recommend the CMMG .22lr uppers. They are reasonably priced and one of the more reliable dedicated uppers available. Furthermore the internals are available in stainless steel, which aid in reliability. Here is some inspiration...

I also built a dedicated 22rf AR using the CMMG upper and it is great. It runs well with the CMMG mags , it is a great training gun, since I can set it up identical to my 5.56 or 6.8spc and run it with a lot less cost than the centerfire. I also use it to train and familiarize shooter's before we move up to the 5.56.

Sorry ya'll, but i think .22 Ar's are the dumbest - gimmickyest thing on the market right now.

The more tricked out it is, the more I roll my eyes. I guess I'm just a snob...

I'd like to do the same, build one for each of my kids, then add a 5.56 later. I've been torn on what upper to get so glad to see this discussion. I've been pretty tempted to just buy the $499 complete rifle that PSA has been showing in stock, although I think that's mostly polymer.

What can an ar22 do that a 10/22 can't? Spend the difference on ammo so we don't have to read all the posts about how you can't shoot your ar22.

Heck, for that matter get the Marlin 795 and save another $150 over the 10/22.

However, I did pick up a CMMG upper for $300 and am quite pleased with it.
