Well.... you're nothing more than one of those damned right wing extremists. How dare you espouse self reliance. I'll just bet you voted for George W. Bush, and own stock in Haliburton. You should be ashamed. :D

And I skewer babies when in my cups...:):

This would eliminate the disparity in price between those with insurance and those who pay their own way and seemingly get soaked as opposed to the sweet rates the insurance providers get.

Just goes to show you that politicians don't write laws. Huge corporate lawyers who own politicians write laws.

    I'm generalizing here.

The "let'em die" mantra works well in hazy dorm rooms. Not so much in real life. Try again.

In a society that isn't bred and raised to believe that the government should take from those who have wealth, ability, and resources in order to give to those who don't merely because they exist we have these things called "charities". People give to them as they see fit, and as a result are able to do what they can to assist those who do not have the means to get medical care for themselves.

For that matter, if the government stops inflating prices and the hospitals/insurance companies instead had to deal with organizations and individuals who actually cared about how much was spent, a larger fraction of people could probably afford healthcare. Quite the contrary, it is redistributive policies that are quite perfect in the hallowed halls of academe, yet fall flat in the real world.

Neither good health, nor health care of any quality, nor treatment of any particular kind, is a right of existence.

What is the 'smallest' term this is covering? (little play on the thread title)

And I will happily pay the extra $20 a month. I imagine it will be a great deal less painful for me then the 3.8% coming out of you rich folk's capital gains.

I never understood how it can make anyone feel better about themselves because the government is taking more money from someone else. I'm always a bit confused when politicians say " we will increase taxes on X because they make too much money". How is that helping anyone except the government? Wouldn't we all like to be a bit richer. How can you be upset at someone for having achieved what you want.

If principle is not sufficient, how about the fact that this cost invariably WILL trickle down, and guess how many people will escape it in the end even if they don't get a direct invoice from the IRS.
