One of my favorite albums of all time ....
I gave a copy of it to a black guy I work with ....He still thinks It is one of the funniest things he has ever heard ..

Never heard of David Allen Coe until you started this thread. Thought that site had to be a hack job or something. So I went to youtube and searched for his songs.... it's not a hack job.

Am I the only one who would really like to see David Allan Coe walk up on stage during a Beyonce acceptance speech at a music awards show, take the microphone away from her & then proceed to tell everyone how Taylor Swift had the best album of all time, and then flip Kanye West "the bird" while handing the microphone back to Beyonce?

I couldn't care less about him. Some songs I like and most I don't. He's in the category of musicians I never care to hear from anymore.

Shel Silverstein helped write some of his "x-rated" songs that were done as jokes. His racists songs, most of which are not really him (most are Johnny Rebel trying to sound like him), were done when he had a black drummer (that he had for close to 30 years).

David Allan Coe has written more hits for other people than he ever had for himself. Went to a show a couple years ago and it was pretty good. He has slowed down a bit but he can still play and put on a show. He plays a clean show and doesn't even like to mention some of his older songs because he was a different person (riding with the Outlaws) back then. Seemed like a pretty decent guy to me after the show when he took the time to talk to people as he was heading out to the van.

If you like Take This Job and Shove It, you like a David Allan Coe song. Johnny Paycheck was just the performer that made it famous.

Wow, looking at pictures of his Suburban it's a miracle no one was killed.

I remember seeing DAC quite frequently down in Philadelphia, Mississippi. I was working as a slot tech doing an install for the Golden Moon casino. I had to be there for a couple of weeks after its grand opening and Coe must've lived nearby because he was always in there.

I can't stand going to a nice dive bar and having to sit elbow to elbow and listen to intoxicated hilljacks drunkenly moan along to "Never call me by my name" all the time. Or when they loop that crap, drunken 50-somethings ramming quarter after quarter clumily into the jukebox. Meaningless lyrics, based in senility and dunken ignorance.

Having just read his past story, now I am even more turned off.
