I am wondering if his prior felony conviction (convicted of assault and attempted burglary five years ago) had any bearing on how this was handled although the article didn't say anything about that. Also, you have to keep in mind, this is NOT the USA. Although this is personally reprehensible to us, it seems to be legal in Canada. I did note that almost all the comments were against how this was handled, however.

I lived in the UP for a year, and that's where I met my wife. It's a beautiful place but there are only two seasons: winter and mosquito! I still enjoy taking trips back up dere dontcha know. I love me some pasties!
