I don't believe that, sitting on the side of the road waiting for a ambulance to show up is a whole lot slower then driving to the hospital, if you are 5min. out and it takes a ambulance 5min. to get to the scene you just delayed 5min., why not do a 30sec. stop and turn the guy loose to get on with his emergency?

I'm not turning anybody loose in that situation. If they were driving in a manner that catches my attention and gets me to pull them over, then I'd rather have an ambulance take them, than cutting them loose and "hoping" they don't hurt themselves or someone else enroute to the hospital.

"Catches" your "attention"? Like what? Burnt out taillight? Not using a turn signal? Rolling through a stop sign? Turning on a red light?
The article said at least three times that he wasn't speeding. The video shows him complying with orders to get on the ground, then he explains the situation. What did he do that makes you think he couldn't get his wife to the hospital safely? How about escorting them?

    How about escorting them?

Nope nope nopity nope. Too much liability, and it's way too dangerous. One thing you learn in EVOC, and get to see in the streets fer realz, is motorists at intersections notice the first car with lights and sirens. The 2nd car or 3rd car is the one who gets hit. Drivers stop, see you go by, then stop paying attention and pull out. No way in poo I'm escorting someone who doesn't have lights and sirens, and there's a method to escorting ambulances and it requires multiple officers to shut down streets and leap frog ahead.

You're lucky if they even see the first one.

You wouldn't have stopped until you reached the hospital? There's a good chance you probably wouldn't have made it. Always, always, always stop when lit up. Explain the emergency, and I assure you we (the police) will get you faster care than you yourself.

Perhaps you might do that Kut, the same can't be said for all police. Even after it became obvious she was in labor they didn't deescalate the situation. And the talk of deleting the video? **** those guys. They should be in prison, not putting others into one.

I responded to this posting earlier. I have thought about what my initial response was and decided that I will explain more of my response.

Situation as I can read from the article - Police decided to pull over the car for some reason that is not listed, although it does state they were not speeding. The driver of the vehicle jumps out after being pulled over screaming his wife was in labor. I fully acknowledge this was a seriously bad choice on his part. I would expect to get a gun pointed at me at this point and taken to the ground.

What bothers me is this - Once it is determined that it was in fact a husband taking his wife to the hospital why was he still arrested? What is the purpose to this? Just because the officer can? The couple was already stressed with trying to get to the hospital and in the process the husband make a seriously bad choice in getting out of the vehicle. I wonder if he would have made to same choice had it been a routine stop without the stress of the wife in labor? I would have to believe that after getting taken to the ground and cuffed and having a gun pointed at him because of his stupid decision would be enough of a learning event that it would more than likely not ever be repeated. It would have scared the hell out of me.

Further I question the integrity of the officers when they are heard to say more than once that they can delete the dash cam footage. I have to believe that they either felt they had something to hide, or even more if the officers were acting in good faith - why would you ever have to make this statement? They stated that they had the DA recommend that they take the husband to jail, only to later state that she agreed to it because she was misled to the circumstances. Again I question their integrity.

I find the actions of these officers questionable. All points in the article to me state that they abused their authority because they could. In which case I believe there was not a real reason to take him to jail other than because they could.

Feel free to school me if I have got something completely wrong in parts of my interpretation of the situation. I am not a law enforcement officer. I fully support anyone that makes the choice to serve and protect our society. Every day they deal with the bad parts of our society.

Dad, grandma killed while rushing to hospital to see baby?s birth | Fox 59

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (December 17, 2015) -- A first-time mom celebrating the birth of her child learns terrible news from the hospital staff: her mother and her fiancé were killed in a car crash as they drove to the hospital to see the new baby and mom.... Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas said speed was a significant factor in the crash.

I get it. You're hyped up. One thing rookies are taught is driving fast isn't always the fastest way to get there, drive beyond your capability and you may not get there at all. Speed because "pregnancy" may not be the best plan.
