Great stuff
What an awesome gesture Sylvain! Thank you so much for doing this and for sharing it with us from a fellow INGOer (of Belgian ancestry). Be assured we here in America remember also what France did to help us at the birth of our nation . Below is a little tidbit from an adventure the Marquis de Lafayette once had after a riverboat he was a passenger on sank in 1825. This spot is a 10 minute drive from my home.
Location: This marker is located on Highway 66, 4 miles east of Cannelton, Indiana past the Cannelton Dam.
Lafayette Spring
The plaque reads: Lafayette Spring. Lafayette and his party spent the night in this community after the steamer Mechanic sank in the Ohio River May 9, 1825. Pioneers came from miles around to visit him at this spring before he departed the following day on a passing steamer. From this historic spot Lafayette Spring Chapter, D.A.R., takes its name. Erected by Lafayette Spring Chapter, D.A.R. 1958.
