Great uncle Bill Brier, Captain in the 323rd bomber group. Piloted a B26 marauder on D- day. Married my aunt Geri after the war.

He always told a story that he lost the jewel out of his West Point class ring while flying through heavy flack on D-day, he replaced it on the flight back over the channel with the chewing gum that he had been chomping on throughout the run that day...that piece of gum stayed in that ring the rest of his life! Pretty cool...

What an awesome gesture Sylvain!:ingo: Thank you so much for doing this and for sharing it with us from a fellow INGOer (of Belgian ancestry). Be assured we here in America remember also what France did to help us at the birth of our nation . Below is a little tidbit from an adventure the Marquis de Lafayette once had after a riverboat he was a passenger on sank in 1825. This spot is a 10 minute drive from my home.

The plaque reads: Lafayette Spring. Lafayette and his party spent the night in this community after the steamer Mechanic sank in the Ohio River May 9, 1825. Pioneers came from miles around to visit him at this spring before he departed the following day on a passing steamer. From this historic spot Lafayette Spring Chapter, D.A.R., takes its name. Erected by Lafayette Spring Chapter, D.A.R. 1958.
