    Hey guys,

What .223 round are you using in your AR for coyote hunting?

I'm hoping to get out this fall and winter, and just curious on ammo for my AR.

a-max, played with barnes a bit, enjoy using sierra matchkings of the HP flavor. there's quite a few different rounds you can try. reloading opens many many doors for ya.

If anyone reading this is willing to take me coyote hunting, please send me a PM. I would LOVE to go, and I definitely have firearms for it.

I'd think any 223/5.56 would do, if they are good for cutting down the enemies at wars, they shouldn't be a problem with the pesty yoki.

Use either a ballistic tip bullet, or a soft lead point bullet. Do not use Sierra matchkings, or military ammunition as they are not designed for expansion

    2 things...

    1) has anyone tried the Barnes Bullets "Varmint Grenades" in their reloads and how do they fare against yotes

    2) where is there a good place to go coyote hunting in northern Indiana, preferably not too far from the South Bend area

Iam with bonzaiberger. My ruger loves the 55gr V-max's. My buddy uses the same round in his colt AR for coyotes.

Matchking HP's are still match bullets.

The HP isn't there to get it to open up.

Even for a lowly yote, and for hard ground skip resistance, use a frangible bullet.
Cheap Hornady regular 55 gr JSP is hard to beat.

i know they dont open up.

i know where i shoot and what is behind it, therefore the skipping part isnt an issue.

perhaps i AM twisted.. oh well.. carry on.

I run 40, 50 and 55 grain Barnes ballistic tips or Hornady VMax. Just won't shoot a FMJ across a field the ballistic tips stop were they hit so it reduces the risk of a ricochet. The results are devastating on the Coyotes. Run them around 3000 - 3100 fps works for me in both the bolt guns and the AR 1-9 twist.

I've had fantastic results on all types of varmints with 52g SMK's. The price is right, accuracy is stellar and they expand well.
