Auto rim was designed to be a replacement for 45 acp and moon clips in revolvers designed for such. I do have a friend who shoots 45 acp in his Model 25 frequently, and has used speedloaders for 45 auto rim in the same revolver. I dont know if you are supposed to, but I cannot see why it wouldnt work.

The case rim on a .45 Auto Rim is quite a bit thicker than a .45 Colt (often incorrectly called "Long Colt") case rim, so although I have not tried it, it should not fit.

I wouldn't. You have essentially no chamber support, the cartrifge would go off, bullet then hits rifling....sounds like its a bad scenario eventually. Are 45 rimmed longer cartridges?

    .45 Auto Colt
    Rim: .4760"
    Case W: .4755"
    Case L: .898"
    OAL: 1.275"

    .45 Colt / LC
    Rim: .512"
Case W: .480" -- No taper like the .45 auto rim
    Case L: 1.285"
    OAL: 1.600"

Does not look like it should work... Especially with the .45 auto rim case tapered, it may only work once...

Google "45 Special" if you are looking for a reduced capacity cartridge that will drop right in a 45 Colt chamber.

Rim thickness on a 45 Colt is .060-.062", +/-, Auto Rim brass is .085-.090 +/-.

I do not think I'd call a gun that blows up as "works once"

I gotta agree with the "dont do it" school of thought here. While Im not sure pressures will remder you handless, I am sure the cartridge dimensions are different eough you will cause problems in your gun. The one thing at a glance that would make me not try this is the fact that the rim thicknesses are different.
