    Hey team,
Here’s a fun project I’m just finishing up I thought you might enjoy, This is a 1996 factory original Diamond Back Outlook mountain bike that I purchased for my wife, So basically it still new, just weathered..

Anyway My son is starting high school in a few months and instead of spending money (I don't really have) and buy him a nice new shiny bike, that he can lose, will get stolen, etc, etc, I decided to go (old School) on this one..

I did what my dad did with me, I sat my boy down and we removed every piece off the bike.. Then we sanded it down did all the prep of all the parts.. Aahhh good quality time with the boy, nothing beats that

So after a few days of trying different looks, colors, and everything else I could think of I decided to stick with the basics.. Less is more and almost everyone likes the P51 look (right) ?? ..

Well, I submitted my idea for approval and after careful review and much discussion I was approved to proceed.

With that said here’s how the project started and is progressing forward via pictures..

Ok team.. That’s what I’ve got far. It still feels (light) that is to say it’s missing something, IDK a name?, more detail, it just feels like it missing something..

    Any thoughts guys??

Hey thanks for your time everybody and have a great weekend

Could use a bag to hang between the rails shaped like a bomb.

Maybe a rack on the back to hang leather (or looks like leather) saddle bags.

Gun sight on center of handlebars.

    Looks great, by the way.

Oh, and that little squeeky dog horn on the other bike. lol

Looking great! I like the gunsight idea on the handle bars (as long as that is Cali legal... ;)) as well as the bomb or fuel tank under the frame.

Most of my P-51's that I've seen have had some yellow on the tail...so maybe the rear fork could have some of that.

For reference here is one I saw at the airshow this past weekend.

It is the polished aluminum look, but I think it would look fine with the shark teeth look you are going for.

Keep up the great work man!!!

Nice paint and finish. Always nice to start a project and document the finish. I can't remember the amount of times I finished something then wished I would have taken before and after to be proud of.

It turned out OK, but my boy picked out paint that really wasn't suitable. He failed to read the can labels, of course. The gold paint was really meant for indoor use...like for painting Styrofoam Christmas decorations.

The blue was some kinda funky anodized crap which required a special undercoat (which he didn't purchase). So it turned out really dark...almost black. Again, my kid failed to read the label before he bought it.

I told him it looks like a Purdue bike...

He's happy with it though. Maybe he'll listen to his old man next time.

Hell.. it'll be trashed in a few weeks anyway the way he rides!

    That's AWESOME work! :rockwoot:

I was going to suggest something like the "kill" stickers they had on the side of the fighters. Like the bomb drops that hit, or the fighters shot down. Something like that. :dunno:

What's funny if I was looking at my mountain bike just two days ago thinking it's too bright and thought about camouflaging it. Rims, frame, pedals, everything.
