What would be the libertarian pov on civil liability for gun manufacturers? What exactly are they immune on now? For example, gun failure causes explosion tearing off 3 fingers...are they considered liable?

These laws are talking about holding manufacturers, dealer and owners strictly liable for civil damages from crimes committed with the guns, not for failures of the guns.

Of course they would be. The law they want to pass is like saying you can sue ford because you crashed your ford focus Into a wall because you were driving to fast. Or I sold a gun legally to John Doe and he kills someone I am held liable because I bought the gun. I defended my home fom a robber and he can sue me, more likely his family since he would be dead.

I think there should be a law that we could sue senators, congressmen, governors, and police chiefs everytime we suffer injury due to them not doing their jobs keeping the streets and our property safe. Since it appears they want to take away our rights of self defense/preservation, they need to step up and be responsible.

Isn't this the same tactic used against the tobacco industry? Since it tended to work pretty well in that case they think it should work against any similar legal industry which sells a potentially lethal device. If it works in the case of firearms can the auto industry be far behind?

I don't think its the same thing, the sticking point against the tabacco companies was that they claimed tabacco was not a health risk, all the while knowing it was. Also, this is for normal tabacco use as intended, no just misuse(as opposed to firearms).

I don't know of any firearms manufacturers that claim firearms cannot be used(misused) to cause harm.:dunno:

I have a thought. Maybe we should allow such exposure to liability on the condition that all members of the legislature, the governor, and the police departments operating in the jurisdiction of a crime and the individual officers directly involved in the incident are likewise made subject to liability for reasons including but not limited to failure to stop crime in a timely fashion to prevent harm to the victims.
