Congratulations ! The last time I heard those words, I was expecting a small annual rase, since my reviews were all excellent. But alas, he said here is your pink slip and if you don't sign this agreement not to sue for age discrimination, you'll get no severance package. What a shock. They wouldn't even let me clean out my desk or tell anyone goodbye....just escorted me to the door. Glad your situation was different.

Well, everyone's been discussing what happened to them during 9/11. Today is the 9-year anniversary of the day this very same boss had to lay me and everyone else off because our investment capital dried up overnight as a result of 9/11. I worked another job for 5 years before he called me out of the blue and asked if I'd come back to work for him. How's that for a crazy universe?

So yeah, I've seen both versions of the conversation that follows "close the door and have a seat", and I feel your pain.

Yeah, that happened in a LOT of places around here. Happened to Mr.Jet and 92 other employees on the first day back after Thanksgiving weekend a few years back.
Just in time for Christmas.

Yeah, as soon as you guys get here. I'm not driving to Indiana.
    Flying is quicker. :D

There never really is a good time for that sort of thing to happen, but that timing just plain stinks. In my case, I was in the process of putting my father in a nursing home, after two strokes and bringing my Downs syndrome brother to live at my house and to top it all off, I had just bought the only brand new truck I had ever owned. With Gods help, we got thru it. Now it's smooth sailin'. (at 1/3 the salary!!)

    Congrats!

Time to go talk to my boss...he promised me a a promotion and a raise in September...I think halfway through is a good time to corner him and ask if it's actually gonna happen...I have a feeling that his hiring new person #2 took away my promotion.

Congrats! My company is one of the few in southern Indiana to have plentiful business, although they can't seem to muster raises for anybody in the last 2 years. It's a good feeling to have a job that pays the bills.:yesway:

congratulations. Try to save most of it instead of falling into the urge of spending it! You will be old some day...
Yeah, my wife and I agreed that we're going to act as if it never happened, and just drop the money right into savings. When that's built a comfortable cushion, we'll start whacking on the mortgage in big chunks and try to get it gone.

Congrats!!!! Nice to know some employers really care about their people.

I "retired" from a company that I was with for almost 30 years because they didn't believe in giving raises. After 6 years of note seeing my pay go up, but my responsibilities did, and seeing the company making money hand over fist, I decided that I had enough.

With a boss like yours, if this is any indication, you look like you are in it for the long hall. Congratulations!

As for just sticking it away and making believe you didn't get it, that might work for a short while. Then you will see a firearm you just have to get, and so much for saving!
    :D :D :D :D
