I was in Vegas in June and stopped by. The show is definately staged. They close the store when they are taping. The store itself is small and pretty run down. Amazing how they make it look giant on TV. Chumlee was there when we walked in signing autographs and shaking hands. The old man came out for about 5 minutes to sit on a stool and pose for pictures with people. I'd say that 50+% of their income these days is from pawn star tshirts and other souvioneers they were selling by the pallet load. All in all a very good show but its definately staged!

Chumlee can't be that stupid. I saw an interview with Rick one time. He said it is a pain because the film crew is there all the time and when they have an item they want to film about they have to clear out the store and then film. I wondered why it looked so dead in there while filming. Also if you see from time to time he has a lot of security there. They accidently get in the shot from time to time and you can see they are trying to stay out of it. Heavily armed too.

It blows my mind what people bring into a pawn shop to sell and then get mad when they are offered a low price. Hello! It is a pawn shop. I find myself yelling quite often "so don't bring it into a pawn shop". I think a lot of people come in hoping to get on TV.

I bet they have some sort of deal with the network to cover losses when they have an item checked out and a value given while the customer is standing there. I can almost guarantee that is not SOP.

Just like in those Peoples Court type shows, they are paid out of a fund that the show has no doubt paid for by advertisers, nobody really loses in those shows. I'll just bet there is some type of arrangment with Pawn Stars. Thing of it is I'd CMA by calling in an expert for some of the stuff that comes in to prevent bying fakes and reproductions. And finally I've seen afew people walk away. most notably a guy had a complete Officers portable desk from the 10th Indana Volunteers from the Civil War, with genuine papers in it. Can't remeber the offer but he walked away, maybe he'll go to an auction house, or donate it to a museum, maybe here in Indiana. Also I have my doubts about their "Gun Expert". Most of the time it looks like he's right on but, there was a trap door gun he didn't think was worth much, and I don't think he properly Identified the early colt in the gamblers kit. It looked like the very first revolver model made by Colt because it had no trigger guard, no loading lever and the telltale cylinder removal pin. Not an expert myself, just watch a lot of History Channel and have a nearly complete collection of "Tales of the Gun" through the NRA. :dunno:

I bet the customers sell a lot of stuff to the "advisors" who value the items. Heck. I would.

id like to punch just about all of the idiots on operation repo.

I never watch that show anymore after I found out it is all staged and they are just actors. I wondered why the "big tough guy" was always getting his butt kicked. LOL

I went to their website a long time ago. Read the blog section they talk about it a lot and at the beginning of the show it says something like re-enactments or something.

I love doing that to hagglers.

the thing i like about pawn stars and american pickers is those guys have to know a little about everything. to me the little tidbits of info you pick up is cool

I'm with you, it's good to watch for the stuff.

Completely staged and yes, it tells you at the beginning in so many words.

They don't just say "THIS IS STAGED," but it's close enough.

They were in the Anderson Casino "Hoosier Downs" ( I think is what it's called ), last weekend and they were pricing things that people brought in.

I like Pawn Stars but i believe its stagged too. I've been recently really into the Swamp People show. Reality TV at its best.

the two guys on american pickers are TURDS.

The fat bearded one is such a follower. He'll do anything that the skinny one says is cool, and then he keeps doing it because he can't think of anything else to do. I watched a few of these episodes, and it made me mad that when the girl asked to go on a "pick" they made fun of her. Seems to me she does the important stuff. :dunno:

Both shows teach a little history in a cool way. They show how junk to one is treasure to another. I have thrown away valuable things that I considered junk at the time. I'm still learning.
