If someone inside the home accidentally shot the little guy, they should have just owned up to it and taken their lumps for being careless or reckless. Lying about it and then hiding from the police will just make the judge want to thrown the book at you.

I use to always let the kids answer the door. Am I supposed to lock them in the closet when someone knocks on the door?

Actually I have been working on this with my children. Every time the doorbell rings they would scream "SOMEONE'S HERE" and run up to the door. I have been working on getting them to stay quiet (at least not run to the door screaming) and stay where they are rather than running to the door. I have explained to them that sometimes I won't answer the door if I don't know the person (aka look like a solicitor) and I don't want them hearing us. I have also explained that I don't want them by the door if it is a not nice person.

I don't want them to be paranoid, but I also want them to understand that it isn't ok to run screaming to the door. I'm the one with the gun, let me answer the door.
