I already know some of the rules pertaining to entering the peoples republic of Illinois but was wondering if there are things I am missing? I know you can carry in a car as long as you can in your own state. And you can have it locked in your trunk as well. Does it have to be unloaded in trunk? Can you exit your vehicle armed if you are on private property and stay on it? Can you carry in a locked case with out a vehicle? For a while before IL got there CC you could carrying in a faney pouch as long as magazine was out of pistol is this still allowed or did the new CC override that? (they where saying it was a closed case (the faney pouch) at the time) If in a case can it be brought on public transportation or parks? IL presently does not allow CC on any of there public transportation or parks. If you are driving armed do you have to inform? And then when the officer ask you to exit the vehicle are you now breaking the law? Sorry bout loads of questions but my wife and I travel to IL a lot because of family ect... and trying to be law abiding and also alive which IL makes extremely difficult to do simultaneously.

I moved out of Ill. some years ago but I think if you are not a licensed Ill. resident you need to keep it unloaded in a compartment not accessible to the driver. And then it still depends somewhat on which kind of LEO you happen to get. Some of them don't like citizens having guns. Best thing to do is go online to the Ill.gov. website and print out the law for Ill. weapons possession. And the phone number of your favorite attorney. After living there with guns for 12 years I try real hard to drive around Ill.

Incorrect. That all changed when their Concealed carry law went into affect.

If you want to travel under interstate federal protection, then yes, it must be unloaded when stored. Under IL law, no, it doesn't need to be unloaded.

    IANAL, yada, yada...

If you do not have an Illinois Concealed Carry permit, but have a carry license from another state, then you can carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle in Illinois. If you leave your vehicle, it has to stay in the vehicle (you can not carry it outside of the vehicle except to put it in or retrieve if from the trunk) it must be out of sight with the vehicle locked.

Here's an excerpt from Handgunlaw.us for Illinois: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/illinois.pdf
    RV/Car Carry (Without a Valid Permit/License)
You can’t carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle without a valid Permit/license.
    430 ILCS 66/40
    (e) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm within his or her
vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within his or her vehicle and the non-resident:
    (1) is not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law;
    (2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence, as
evidenced by the possession of a concealed carry license or permit issued by his or her state of
    residence, if applicable; and
    (3) is not in possession of a license under this Act. If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle
unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in
accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act. (Source: P.A. 98-63, eff. 7-9-13.)
Subsection (b) of Section 65 States:
    (b) Notwithstanding subsections (a), (a-5), and (a-10) of this Section except under paragraph (22) or (23) of
subsection (a), any licensee prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm into the parking area of a
prohibited location specified in subsection (a), (a-5), or (a-10) of this Section shall be permitted to carry a
concealed firearm on or about his or her person within a vehicle into the parking area and may store a
firearm or ammunition concealed in a case within a locked vehicle or locked container out of plain view
within the vehicle in the parking area. A licensee may carry a concealed firearm in the immediate area
surrounding his or her vehicle within a prohibited parking lot area only for the limited purpose of storing or
retrieving a firearm within the vehicle's trunk. For purposes of this subsection, "case" includes a glove
compartment or console that completely encloses the concealed firearm or ammunition, the trunk of the
vehicle, or a firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container.

So what about private property? Can I carry on my mother laws land or not? Nothing states you are allowed to but I presume that it is her private property so it would be ok?

And sorry I have read through that original post but answers to more specifics where lacking. The law is pretty short. It does not address all kinds of things such as how to move it around outside the vehicle. What if I wanted to sell it to a gun store in IL can I carry it in there in a case unloaded of coarse or is that not allowed since it is outside vehicle and as I said before what if the cop wants me to exit the vehicle can I be charged then? Why cant we all just follow the constitution that clearly states the right to bear arms makes life simple.

As a non-resident, you don't get out of the car with an unboxed gun. If you have to take it out of the car, unload it and put it in a case. If it's in a case, you're fine to take it out of the car.

If a cop wants you to exit the vehicle while you are carrying as a non-resident, tell him that it is illegal for you to exit the vehicle with a loaded firearm and ask him what he wants you to do.

Haven't seen this addressed yet. Duty to inform. Yes and no. You have no duty to volunteer but if asked you are required to answer truthfully. And that applies to everyone in the vehicle.
