As much as that place costs and the possibility of having to explain to a child why you can't stay to see "Mickey" as you are being escorted out of the parks isn't worth it IMHO. I just wouldn't risk it, leave it in the car or in the room safe.

NO GUNS! Not even off duty police can carry there.

No guns for ANYONE included federal LEOs as well. The only people who have guns on Disney property are the Disney LEO's (private LEO they have). You DO NOT see these LEOs as they typically are not out and about in the park but working "under" the park. Not even the sheriff's on which the Disney county is on can get inside the park with their firearms!

No reason to carry in the parks themselves. No guns are allowed so everybody is safe. All sarcasm aside I spend most of my time unarmed at work so it doesn't really bother me that much.

See above. There are guns on the property but you will never see the Disney LEOs.

We are staying at Pop Century resort, so I'm thinking I'll lock it in the room safe if we are riding the shuttles, but if we drive to a park, I'll probably take it and leave it in the car.

I went last year in SEP and I would recommend to you to spend a little more and stay at the MODERATE or above resorts. The VALUE resorts are the worst they have. It's worse than a Hotel 6 room.

We stayed at the Caribbean Beach Moderate resort and the little ones loved it.

Here is a good website to get a ton of info from those people that visit the place 2 or more times a year.

The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com - Powered by vBulletin

Also not sure when you are going but SEP **IS** the best time to go. Lowest rates, free dinning plans, and the lowest number of people in the parks since it's their off-season time. OCT is another better month. Yes it does require pulling the little ones out for a week from school but well worth it. You will see only the retired, newly weds or those with newborns for the most past. Ride lines will by 5 mins max. Not a lot of little kids or teens. :D

It won't be legal, cause it's private property, & they said NO guns in the park:twocents:

It is LEGAL but if Disney sees it they will ask you to leave. Once they do if you refuse you are then trespassing and then they can call the police on you and thus now you are doing something ILLEGAL (ie TRESPASSING!)

Its the same concept that we have here in Indiana. You can go to Santa Claus theme park or Wal-Mart but if they ask you to leave and you do not then you are trespassing and you will be getting arrested for it.

Disney is probably the safest place in the US to go to. They are in the business of being viewed as "safe" otherwise no one will go. Either leave it in the car or don't take it at all. Enjoy your time with the family and forget about the world.

They will search your bags upon entry to the park. One more thing to be aware of is clip knives. They will throw a fit about having a pocket clip on a knife. I was stopped at the initial inspection and was told that I couldn't have my knife (small, 2" blade). I talked with the guard and he said just keep it down in my pocket and not clipped on. I said thanks and did as he requested. As soon as i was out of sight, i reclipped the knife to my pocket. As walked a little way further, another plain clothes guard made a bee-line to me from across the street. He also questioned me about the clip knife. After seeing the knife and hearing that the guy out front said i could keep it, also said to keep it down in my pocket. I then complied for the rest of the day.

Long story short, they are militant about spotting clips. I assume that they are looking more for LCP or others with a clipdraw attached or large clip knives, but they will stop and question you if they see a clip on your pocket.

P.S. I was there about a year ago when this happened.

This just makes me wanna go and clip random things in my pockets. Pens. Flashlight meant for a hat. Clips with nothing attached at all. Hmmm...maybe I could have fun there. :D

The wife & I are taking our 4 year old next week & staying at this resort. Did you see any reason why a person shouldn't conceal carry & just leave it in the room during the week? We're flying to Tampa first for a few days & then driving over to Orlando. If we were going straight to Orlando, I probably wouldn't even worry about it. I'm glad to hear you had a good experience here.

    I don't agree with this.

We have stayed in each of these for 5 days or more:

    Boardwalk
    Grand Floridian
    Animal Kingdom Lodge (savannah room)
    Key West
All Star Resorts (a value resort)

The value resorts aren't bad. They are small, but they are clean and convenient. The biggest downside to them is that the transportation is not as good as the other more expensive resorts. They might not be the Grand Floridian, but I would rather stay in them than off property. Honestly, I don't think you can get anything off property for much cheaper than them.

Personally, the coolest one I have stayed in is the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Even if you don't stay there, you should make a trip over to look around. The fanciest was the Grand Floridian, but honestly I like the AKL better. Boardwalk was also really nice and it was very convenient because you could walk to EPCOT. We have spent more time in the All Stars than any others because they are cheap and its not like you spend much time in the resort.

I wonder if there are any official stats on the violent crime rate at the Disney theme parks.

    INGunGuy

    I can't find anything :dunno:

The crime rates in Kissimme and Orlando are kind of ugly, but to find much of anything relating to violent crime inside one of the parks or resort hotels is almost nonexistent. It is either very safe or they have a very tight lock down on bad press getting out.

We've stayed at Pop Century twice before, (I've just never carried there before as we used to fly down), It's an awesome place, great swimming pools, and in the food court they have one of the best chili dogs I've ever eaten! Oh, and if you slip the poolside bartender a ten, he'll make you an extra strong vodka and cranberry in a really big cup.:yesway:

I am sure there are...buried deep in a safe inside a locked room surrounded by a mote and several mean alligators somewhere in central Florida. By that I mean, it would seem that the slightest rumor of a violent incident would cost Disney money. Yes they exist, but unless your last name is Disney we won't ever see them...

Also, if you are going to Disney for the first time PM me and I will send you my 21 free tips I've come up with over my last 15 visits. It's the only free thing associated with Disney you are likely to receive. :-)

    You r 1 bad girl! :D

We're flying to Tampa first for a few days & then driving over to Orlando. If we were going straight to Orlando, I probably wouldn't even worry about it. We fly when we went in SEP (this was post TSA going crazy. We are planing on going in SEP 2012 but will we be driving from now on) so I did not want to deal with the issue of having to fly a handgun out of Midway (Chicao, IL) to Orland, FL and back.

As others have stated they only bag check at the park entrances no wands so you could "deep" CC and be OK. However I saw nothing that would make me feel unsafe there. The parks are probably the most secure place in the USA as there is a million eyes (cameras and live bodies) watching everything in the park. Also you have to remember that the park (the part you and I walk is the top floor of a very big building). There are 3 floors under you where the real work to make the place run occurs. It's on these floors where the armed security is at to spring at any moment to the top floor (many ways to get to the top) to take care of any issues.

An issue occurs and they are going to take the problem "underground" ASAP. The park is all about perception. Its suppose to be the happiest place on earth apart from the melt downs of the little ones.

You could leave it in the safebox in the hotel and take the key with you. Supposedly the key you have *IS* the only key for that safe. You lose that key and it's a $150 fee as they will have to call a locksmith. Per the text on the key. However do I really trust that? Hum... Not sure. We did use the safe to keep our passports and they were there every time we came back. The safes are not that big or deep BTW. Yes I think it would hold a 5" 1911 in it standing up.

Thinking about it now. Yeah a weapon in the hotel room would be a good idea as oppose to the parks. The parks have ore than enough security and as others have stated no way you are going to be able to use a gun & not hit someone else in the process. Even in SEP (lowest # of guest @ the park) the place still has way too many people.

What I would recommend is a baseball bat for the hotel room as a just in case weapon. Can't get in trouble for that 1. :D

Plus you could carry it around in your bag around the resort if you really wanted to and no one would take a second look. The resorts are all well lit at night and there is walking security as well.

You are going to have a very, very hard time finding any. The Disney property has it's own governing body since the entire property is one big county in the eyes of FL. As such they have their own law enforcement unit (ie. the county sheriff's office). Disney in the 90s did release control of the only town within the county that they had build. Can't recall the name of the town it was in the news a few months ago for having it's first murder (ever in it's 12 years of existence!)

In any case no stats are publicity released since the only tax payer in that county is Disney. Any type of work related injuries/reports are very quickly dealt with as well.

Agree that if you go STAY ON SITE for the best "overall"experience and not having to worry about jack! The transportation at Disney is great and makes having to go from one place to the other hassle free.

Depends on what you want from the vacation & that dictates which resort. If you plan on spending all day at the parks for 5 days then yes the VALUE works since you are just using it as a place to sleep. There is a whole lot more to Dinsey than just the parks BTW.

OP not sure what age your kid are or if you are going 4 u and the spouse. But Dinsey has a ton to offer other than just the parks.

Good advice all around. We are going to Disney for the first time in a few days and I was curious about carrying. We weren't planning on taking a gun into the park since I dont want to get caught and get kicked out. (Just my luck). I don't haven anything small enough to conceal anyway.

and eat... but I often times go to other resorts other than the one I am staying at for food. Disney has a lot of incredible restaurants, many of them are in the resorts.

Disney doesn't have anything I need ... therefore their "no guns ever" policy means I will not be visiting.

I can't understand why any of you ..... oh, never mind.
