The Amish in central Wisconsin have had cell phones since at least 2008. They couldn’t have landlines because it was a “connection to the modern world”, but cell phones aren’t? If they had a landline it was either in the barn, or outside on a pole. But NOT in the house. I don’t pretend to understand, I can admire them but no desire to be one of them. I asked some questions about the differences between the Amish and Mennonites in the area and was told to not bother.

Amish around my area do not have cellphones, the businesses they run have a little shed that they build to have a landline in to make calls or receive calls. Most Amish around my area don't even have phones. I guess it depends on the leadership in the area.

Sure some still live the old ways. We still have a few amish farms with a phone booth at the end of the driveway. But even to say sell your years tobacco its not like one can still write letters to Phillip Morris and work out what you grew and how for them tobuy it.
Is tough to run today's Amish retail businesses without today's modern appliances.

How does one run a commercial sawmill, a stihl & echo dealer, harness and saddle shop, small engine repair, electric motor repair without phone, fax and internet.
