A buddy from work has a family elder pass away and was asking me if I'd be interested in these old guns. I'm not much of historian or collector, and but I "think" we've got a mauser 98, winchester 97, and some semi auto chambered in the same caliber as the mauser. I'd like to help my friend sell these, but first I have to be able to know something about these which I really don't. Any information about the make and model of these guns would be very helpful. I'm not trying to sell these and this isn't a classified ad. If he choses, I can help him get one setup, but this is about getting the information so he knows what to list these as so he can get a widow a fair value. I've held all these and they're in about as mind condition as you could hope for out of guns of this vintage. I didn't look down the barrels of any of them, but mechanically these are in great shape. The bayonets were in great near mint shape too.

You have a bolt action Mauser, a Model 97 Winchester with some sort of add on choke, and a Hakim. The Hakim is probably the most valuable but you need somebody more knowledgable than me on this. The model 97 is a shooter, and the Mauser needs a good look over before you can establish value. Look over in GB for numbers particularly on the Hakim.

The Hakims came over during the 80s with a lot of good milsurps.

I'm not an expert but , I think you have an FN-49, 1895 Chilean Mauser, and a '97 Winchester. That should help you know what to search on Google, or GunBroker to establish a ballpark value.
If you have a GB account save a couple that have bids on them and you'll get an idea of what stuff is selling for- don't forget to add in tax, shipping, and transfer fee to the auction price to get an apple to apples price.
    Good Luck

I'll speak to the 97. Looks like a Poly-choke add on. 4-500.00 to a cowboy shooter. The choke needs off for competition or worth a touch more. I would personally pay 400.00 as is then spend another 200.00 to get it ready to compete.

You're correct. I thought it was a Hakim, but on closer inspection it is an FN49. They're nice rifles. Used to be referred to as a "poor man's M1A", but now they're nearly as expensive as the M1A.

Specifically, it's a Venezuelan FN49 in 7x57 Mauser, so it would indeed be the same caliber as the Chilean 1895.

Looks to be a very nice contracted FN49 for Venezuela. These are absolutely wonderful rifles. I would say the only downside is 7x57 ammunition can be hard to locate nowadays. If you do shoot it. I would stay away from surplus 7x57 ammunition. Most of that ammunition is corrosive, and about all of it has dead primers. Stuff is old. One of the bayonets is S84/98 bayonet for the k98k. You would have to take a picture of it to verify the code which will determine the manufacturer. Also check to see if the scabbard matches the blade as well. If it does that would increase its value.

I know as far as the ammunition for the rifles go, they've got 300 rounds ish of ammo for them. I can't say thanks enough for all the help here everyone. This information will help them list it or at least know about what they've got.
