What makes anyone think the minimum wage is supposed to be enough for the sole support of someone?

    Marketing does.

The same kind of marketing the packages billions in corporate welfare to Con Agra, ADM, et al as 'helping america's farmers.' The same kind of marketing that sends you 'statements' about how much Social Security 'benefits' are in your 'account' and perpetuates the myth that you are paying for your own retirement, rather than paying for current retirees.

Or packages lavish teacher retirement packages and bloated education bureaucracy as being "for the kids." Or props up massive university budgets on the basis of 'helping students.'

Or turns massive government land grabs that destroy the environment into "conservation" measures.

I'd go on, but that would be unsporting.

With a lot of people (nyself included) it does.

However, beyond the minimum wage earners, there are those who key what they expect employees to make as a multiplier based upon the minimum wage. Ever wonder why unions generally support minimum wage increases while none of their members actually make minimum wage? Raise the minimum wage, watch the next round of CBA negotiations get real interesting....and will the resulting wage increases be based upon economic reality or government fiat?

At this point, it seems like the aim of so many in the government is to find the least amount of profit a business can make and still stay in business. Sooner or later, these same people will realize that if the government owned the business, they wouldn't need to allow for ANY profit.

    Way ahead of you bro:

Kentucky city called socialist for buying gas station, undercutting competitor fuel prices - Washington Times

“We are one community that decided we’ve got backbone and we’re not going to allow the oil companies to dictate to us what we can and cannot do,” Mayor Eddie Girdler told AP. “We don’t care if we don’t sell a drop of gasoline. Our objective is to lower the price.”
