You're absolutely right! Don't forget that Senate Democrats including Sen. Joe Donnelly, tried to amend not the 2nd but the 1st Amendment this year! It didn't get reported that way but their intent was to change the 1A to NOT apply to groups or corporations. The idea was to silence the NRA and other groups representing non-liberal interests. It would not have applied to billionaires like Michael Bloomberg.

That effort was sold as "protecting the right to free speech from being corrupted" but it was entirely about suppressing the conservative voice.
