NASCAR does not care about the wants and needs of their fans. That is why it's a fading sport. A statement would hush a lot of this speculation.

I don't think it is fair to say Nascar doesn't care about its fans. They are at the mercy of the medical people and the family, which is as it should be. We don't want them issuing comments based on rumors. Even if they talked to Ryan's sister, that's not enough to issue a statement.

The execs with Nascar know every driver, especially one like Newman, personally. They are in worse shape than we are, I'm sure. I want them to issue a statement when they have confirmed his condition, not a moment sooner.

That said, the lack of news is just too familiar to race fans that have been around awhile. However, maybe this time it is a good thing. Maybe it means he's got a fighting chance. That's what I'm going to hope it means, because there's no other option for an optimist.
