Your BOB should be just as simple as it can be. Watch out for what you add to it. Weight is a big factor. You may not always be in a vehicle.

I repack mine about every month. Taking this into consideration. We also do training by taking it out and fighting with it on. Here you will really appreciate going light. I use a SOE active shooter bag. Here are the contents by memory:

    Emergency Blanket
    Emergency Rain Poncho
    VOK
    Flash Light
    World Radio
Extra batteries for radio and light
    Folding Saw
Wire cutter for cutting small locks and fences.
Fire starter @ 2 different methods
    Glock G19 Mags @ 2
    AR Mags @ 4
    Energy Jelly Beans
    Water bottle
    Water purification tabs
    Map of NE Indiana
    Knife
    Multi-Tool
    Glow stick
    Flight gloves
    Hat
    Para Cord
    Compass
    D-Ring

Then in a separate discreet bag I keep an AR with two mags, one in the rifle and one loose.

Agreed. Which is why you should be able to assemble a more portable, specific toolset if you need to leave the vehicle behind or be able to divide supplies up for multiple people to carry.

I think of my vehicle as a house on wheels but I can put together a suitcase if needed.

I've been wanting to get some of the quik clot for mine, Where can you find it without buying a huge and expensive trauma first aid kit? I've got plenty of first aid supplies to cover most anything, except for that.

Not sure where you can find it locally but it's all over the net . Redneckmedic could probably help with this to .

I also know of nobody that carries it locally, but i know that lapolicegear.com carries it. They typically have pretty good prices on gear and quick shipping even from LA.

I'll have to c heck them out. Although I did some searching last night and found that cabelas also carries the quik clot sport. The ones that are sponges instead of the powder. And its fairly cheap, I will prob shop around, but may end up ordering some soon. I"m gonna work a bit harder to get my BOB ready soon.

I go with the water purifier I take backpacking and a backpacking stove. I also have a weapons cleaning kit, binos, walkie talkies, wobie (poncho liner) extra socks, baby wipes and a TOOTH BRUSH..

I never see a toothbrush on any of the posted lists... I mean really...

here is my BOB...it seems like a lot and might sound too heavy. but it's really not heavy at all. Most of the things are pretty light weight. Only filled my backpack up about 1/2. Had to add some extras of things for the kids. Wife has a trimmed down version in her car.

    3600 calorie food bars
    MSR water purifier
    water bottle
    bottle of Potassium Iodate KI03
    Crank flashlight
    Crank radio
    Lightsticks
2 types of fire starters with tinder
    Dust masks
    Space blankets
    Tube tent
    100ft rope and some bungees
    duct tape
    Compass / Map
    Rain ponchos
goggles, military combat type...not swimming goggles!
    Multi tool
    regular can opener
folding stove w/ 2 cans of fuel
    eating utensils
    Wire saw
    Army shovel
spare Plastic bags, the big Glad zippered freezer type
    Work gloves
Ball cap and a winter cap
    winter and normal socks
    100rds .40 ammo w/ mags

Med kit.. some of the things i added are:

    Advil
    Bug Spray
    Iodine
    Antibiotic ointment
    Anti-itch spray
    Blistex
    Aloe
    Thermometer
    small hand sanitizer
    extra blister and burn bandages
    quick clot

Personal hygeine bag....a Glad gallon zipper bag

stuff for my contacts / spare glasses
    tooth brush / tooth paste
    micro fiber towel
    plastic mirror
    tissue
    an extra hand sanitizer
    camping soap (liquid, bottle)

If you have things with expiration dates, I suggest making note of it while packing the BOB and keeping it somewhere to check..on PC or something. Make a habit of checking the bags contents and expiration dates every month.

It's a sign of the times.... we're talking about Bug Out Bags.
Before Sept. 11, 2001, this topic would only be discussed by "conspiracy wackos". NOW, it's a main stream topic. (rightfully so)

Don't forget to stock some of this stuff in your basement or safe room. You may not want/need to bug out for a few days and a small home stash will be handy.

I also consider my BOB as a get home bag as that is where I have planned to stay in case of a SHTF situation.

    Contents:

Army wool blanket in vacu bag to reduce size.
    50 foot poly rope
    50 foot nylon rope
    100 foot para cord
    4 bungee cords
10x12 Tarp in case of slide off and broken window, or makeshift tent.
    Reflective foil blanket
    Oversize 3mil thick rain poncho
    1 - folding 4 inch knife
1 - 8 inch knife with saw edge on back
LED flashlight with 32 led's (40 hour runtime)
Head lamp with 3 White LED's, 2 red and a Krypton bulb
    6 AAA batteries
Cotton balls, in petroleum jelly in water proof pill bottle
Bic lighter and matches in water proof pill bottle
    Compass and map combo
    First Aid kit
Pill bottle with Tylenol, 8 vicodin's and daily medication for 3 days
1 pair of goat skin leather gloves
Shovel combo with Blade, saw, pick and hammer/axe attachments
    Small multi took kit
2 of the big MRE's (side, dessert, crackers and drink mix)
4 - 8.5 oz water packs (can be frozen so leave in pack year round)
    1 - 2 liter hydro bag
40 rounds of spare ammo to go along with what I carry daily.

I also pack a cooler to work every day and usally come back with a full liter of water and a Coke Zero, so this will add to my hydration.

I work outside so I have appropriate clothing with me at all times, so do not have to pack any of that.

Last time I checked on the weight it was about 28 pounds, so it's still fairly light to carry. Also it's a small to medium pack and it is at it's limit for capacity. I do plan on getting a 3 day pack, so I can carry a few more items but want one with plenty of pockets to separate items so I don't have to pull out multiple items to get to one particular thing.

I'm also making one for my wife, but on a smaller scale, and several members of my wife's family are interested in one because of rural travel and possible breakdown. So I'm working on a custom pack for each one of them

Aside from the normal "get from point A to point B" stuff, today I realized that I needed hair do-dads in my bag. May seem frivolous, but when you need one, you NEED one!
Do you speak of scissors? Nevermind, beer isn't a need, but I've had too many today, sorry.

Hemostatic agents are best used by trained personnel, not saying QC doesn't work, but it does not work miracles! Do some research before you invest the money QC and some others demand.

How about a tarp. I always take one when I go hiking. There is numerous things you can use it for shelter, ground cloth, wind break, etc. As far as the kids go I would have a bag for everyone in your family.
