You can be friendly and still not waive your rights.
But those students were bordering on being unfriendly. If they truly wanted to just demonstrate their rights try should have said "No thanks" when the officer asked for ID and walked away. Walking away from the cop would demonstrate rights more than standing there arguing about the 4th amendment.

Agreed, arguing for 30 minutes gets people no were. Get to the point, say your peace and be done with it.

The point is that those people wanted to attract attention.

Why? Because if one of mine is stolen and gets sold a few times and say a law abiding citizen now has it and the cop runs the serial number and finds out its stolen then I get my gun back..... Yes the odds are low but still there.
And the guy who just got checked is out of a legally purchased handgun.
You did say it had changed hands multiple times, right?
It is perfectly legal for an individual to buy a handgun from another individual in Indiana.
Except, now he technically is in possession of stolen property.
Do you want him to be arrested too?

I love the young kids enthusiasim, and wanting to teach citizens about their rights. They just got schooled, by someone older and wiser, in this case.
