Have yet to shoot the xds, but I've shot the PX4 Compact and a PX4 compact and both were awesome shooters. Both were reliable, both were super accurate and very comfortable.
The slide is smooth and easy to manipulate. Great gun for sure....
Be careful of the Beretta PX4. They have a rotating barrel and the first gen series have serious FTE/FTL issues. My friends wife and roommate both have one. His functions fine... hers is craptastic.
The rotating barrel is a solid design, although it might not perform as well if you throw it in sand. What you are talking about is the gen1 sub compacts from a few years ago that do not use the rotating barrel. They had a design flaw on the initial run, but that has been fixed for a long time.
I have a px4 d type on layaway, and can't wait to pick it up, take it home, and fire it up at the range. I looked at an xd when I first looked for my first carry pistol, but it never felt right to me...
