I was discussing this with a friend of mine recently who is obsessed with economics.
What are the most useful items for bartering in the event of social/economic collapse or hyper-inflation?
I think those two scenarios are probably quite different when it comes to bartering items. In the event of hyper-inflation, people will still hold value in non-essential things (gold, silver, etc). The need is to have something that can replace the currency. In the event of social/economic collapse, I'm guessing people will be less interested in non-essential items and be more interested in USEFUL stuff.
We discussed things like keeping silver and gold on hand vs. keeping things like ammunition and food staples stockpiled for bartering use.
What items do you think will have a high demand and value during these two situations? Feel free to give different answers for the different scenarios.
