I ride and I get the "you must save a fortune on gas" thing a bunch. Then I explain to them that having a new rear tire put on is $230 and it only lasts 10k miles. Or that it takes 3.5 quarts of oil and the oil is $10 a quart plus another $9 for a filter. I've thought about buying a 3rd car to get better mileage and save on gas but by the time you pay for insurance, plates, wheel tax, and maintenance, you don't save anything.
