Thanks for the updates. Prayers for France, still.
No bombs in the backpack, maybe a dry run to evaluate security?
The attack occured before the security screening to gain acess to the museum.
I would imagine you would go thru security as a visitor to evaluate the security.

I wonder if his plans fell apart and he start to improvise. Or maybe he wasn't billy-badass terrorist like he thought and went to panic mode and screwed up his operation.
I am sure we'll never know his motives.
It's quite odd that the attacker came from so far for such a simple attack.
Maybe he had contacts in Paris, it's very odd for a tourist to rent a car in Paris too.

Two backpacks and two machetes, says to me, accomplice(s) either in there waiting or to follow shortly after he gets in.

That is very good ! ! !
Could be that a second guy didn't show up at the last minute.
Almost forgot, shame the "suspect" survived.
Damn part time jihadis.
Reports: Soldier shoots attacker at Louvre in Paris
One man is reported to have attack a soldier with a machete while yelling "allahu akbar".
The suspect was shot by a second soldier.
Bomb squad was called, the attacker carried two backpacks.
NPR said this morning that the attacker shouted "god is great." Apparently we can't be trusted with an actual quote.
