For the guys buying and reading the book ... save your money . Just watch the evening news ... C- Span congressional sessions with a dash of the two major parties planks and platforms .... then you got it ....

I don't want to read the thread because I'm about 800 pages into the book now.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad that they're making a movie out of this. I think a mini-series would be a much better option. Somehow I feel that the message of the book will be perverted, like so many other books I love.

Too bad Rand didn't finish her screenplay writing before she died. I would imagine one thing though: had there been an 1980's version of it, it could have taken off big time. I used to see other kids in college reading the book alot. Made me really think that if they made a movie about it, non-college kids would have picked up on it. Now with that sort of response, would Obama be president now? ;) The power of media, but not the type of media that would have been necessary. Today's kids need a movie to teach them (brainwash them if need be) instead of a book. Ever tell someone to read a book you really like? Ask them in 6 months if they have. Did they? Usually not. Ask them to watch a movie. You wont even have to wait 6 months for them to talk to you about it.

    Something to think about... :D

I'm a big fan of this book after reading it about 2 years ago. I didn't realize it until I finished the book, but I've already 'gone Galt' in my life and think that the book would make a great movie, but I also worry that the movie could really destroy the message if its not done correctly.

I know that Angelina Jolie had the rights to make this movie, but the project never happened. Then Charlene Theron had the rights to make the move, but that also did not happen. Both actresses were planning to play the part of Dagney Taggart. This new production is already in POST-Production, has apparently been filmed with unknown actors.

With any luck it will portray the movie in the true spirit of the message of the book.

For avid readers who enjoy a history lesson, read Rand's WE THE LIVING, it is an account of life in Russia after the revolution but before the formation of the USSR. This book is great for history lovers, but may not be the best choice for people looking for the message portrayed in Rand's other books because it is written in a docu-drama style. As a history lover I really enjoyed it, but I know some who have not. Link to book on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/We-Living-Ayn...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1283191582&sr=8-1

ANTHEM is an interesting short story. When I picked it up I hated the first 10+ pages but by the time I was finished with it I was hungry for more and was upset it ended so quickly. What shocked me is that my daughter had this book assigned to her for her Freshman Honor's English class. The regular Freshman English did not read this book, but the honors students all got it. This is not the type of message that I would expect a high school student to get to see. . . then again she does attend a private high school. THE FOUNTAINHEAD is a good book, somewhat heavy handed with the message, the movie is not as good as the book and the message is not as clear, but same basic message of individual responsibility, individual liberty, individual worth. The Fountainhead is more accessible, and I think a better book. If you want to understand the logical extension of socialism to its maximum, and the effect on the human spirit, read Anthem. If you want to see how socialism works in practice, read We the Living. Anthem and We the Living are much easier reads.
