I was on a remote fire base in the Central Highlands '69-'70 and watched this sort of thing many nights. I watched Spooky and Puff the Magic Dragon send down ribbons of tracers. I saw napalm being dropped on occasion.

The call sign for the AC47 was Spooky, the AC 130 was Super Spooky. They could really light up the sky. My unit was USAF Forward Air Controllers and we called many missions for both of these types of air craft along with many others.
interesting factoid: There were no US outposts overrun when a Spooky was on station providing air cover.
