In Japan it is common to walk up to and talk or interact with government officials. The officials do the same walk into groups of people.I'm curious how the heck this guy snuck up carrying his invention without being noticed.

It is probably one of those Miroku S&W/Colt hybrid knockoffs...On a related note, the security staff carries J frame revolvers? Holy 1950s batman!
That is odd...Apparently they found similar gun-like devices at the suspect's home.
This one appear to have 5 barrels.
Indeed. Now if it had six barrels it would be even. That is odd...

As evidenced by the movie Gung Ho.In addition, violence in Japan is rare. The nation as a whole is (lack of a better word) brainwashed by the government and follow the rules to the letter.
Recall they had emperors for most of their culture. It's only been since the end of ww2 that the western form of .gov is there. So it's a different culture all together.

Murderer's Mom went bankrupt donating to a religious organization. He thought Abe was friendly with them.Has the motive been determined?

Then it must not have been an 'Assault weapon' and totally harmless. Right????Pistol grip but I don't see the shoulder thing that goes up or bayonet lug.
Many years ago when I compared murder rates for Tokyo, New York city and few other large cities surprisingly they were more or less the same regardless of firearm laws. Japan is not that well behaved.Sidearm are illegal for civilians to posses in Japan but rifles/shotguns FOR HUNTING only are allowed.
It is very hard to get the permit for said weapon.
