That is the beauty of AR500. As long as you use frangible ammo it splashes out at about a 20 degree poof of little bits. You can shoot pistol all day at 12-15 yrds.

what about .223 fmj or ap how far away do i need to be. are you saying i can shoot lead pistol bullets at 12-15 yrds

    AP is a no-no:nono:

everything else you mentioned is good to go (100+ recommended for centerfire). I have some pictures of .50BMG and .338Edge at 100yds if you are interested.

would love to see some pics of this steel shot with a 50, why would this steel keep a bullet form ricocheting, would a bullet ricochet worse if the steel was a different composition say hot roll, 4140, s-7, a-2, 1095

It is due to the hardness of the steel. AR500 is a 480-520 brinell hardness metal. A36 is 150ish, A514 is 250ish, 4140 is upper 300s I believe. The hardness of AR500 allows the fragmentation of the bullets shot at it to be predictable since it maintains its surface integrity longer. When you have to start worrying about ricochets is when the surface becomes pitted, cratered, or uneven. This lends itself to less predictable fragmentation.

All steel will eventually need replaced. AR500 is hard enough that it withstands the impact, but is not too hard that it becomes brittle.
