I've got a line on a 7.62x39 barrel for an AR15. Its 16" and has what looks like the A2 style front sight. My question is...will an A2 rear site work for this build in 7.62x39?

I have a A3 16" .223 already but I had a extra lower receiver laying in my safe (since 2004). I know it oughta be a crime!

    Your rear sight should work.

    Mags are not cheap.

Uzibutton has a picture in the show and tell of a beauty AR47 style lower that uses AK mags. But you already have a lower so you'd need the special mags.

    How much is "not cheap"?

So I wont run out of elevation adjustment shooting the 7.62x39 using an A2 sight?

They are not cheap and that particular platform does not run reliably w/out alot of money dumped into it. If you like .30 cal then try out a 300 blackout. It uses the same mags as your 5.56 and is alot more reliable and practical.

From what Ive read there is one company that makes 30rd mags that work and the price wasnt too bad....for me. I will certainly checkout the 300 though thanks.

AR's in 7.62 are a money pit. If you have a fascination with 7.62 x 39 buy a good AK. Don't try to reinvent the wheel.
Already have 2 M70AB2 Yugos. I would of preferred to just get a decent A2 .223 kit with 20" barrel "pre ban config" but Im just not seeing any deals out there and most are out of stock if they even handle that config. I also got a ton of 7.62x39 and plan on buying another case soon.

It's not a money pit. 7.62x39 is a wonderful caliber for the AR. Mags can be gotten at Aim Surplus for $15.99. They work great. Regular mags work just fine when they aren't stacked to the brim. 8 rounds in a 10 round mag, that sort of thing. If you are into reloading, brass case ammo can be had pretty reasonably at Meijer by comparison to places that sell it online. Happy plinking.

Im good on ammo and I do reload as well. I have about 200 new never loaded brass in 7.62x39. Im not gonna sweat a $25 mag. 2 or 3 will work for me. I only have like 6 for my other AR (.223) and i rarely get out more than 3 at a time of those.

Yea Ive heard a number of guys cursing the 7.62x39 mags for the AR platform. An there can be feeding trouble with them. I dont belive I would get one after reading all the bad on them, not to say all of them are bad. I just know how my luck is, lol
