I'm looking for some info and tools. I bought my first ar last July 4th09. Haven't shot it yet(long story). I want to know where I can get a manual to strip it down to clean and inspect an to know what I'm looking for in general. I bought this on a whim or an impulse! Also what tools are needed to take it down? I'm a newby with them. Any help be appreciated.

Actually you need no tools to field strip it.

Go on you tube and look for AR cleaning or maintenance videos
and you can go from there to start with.
It's actually a little easier than looking in a book because you can see
how it's done instead of reading how it's done.

For basic field stripping and cleaning you shouldn't need any special tools. To go any further you will want an AR 15 combo tool like this and a few punches and a plastic face hammer. There are some specialized tools but, unless you are building or repairing them I don't think you will need more then that. Just my :twocents:

Thanks for the info. I just need to get my wife out of the hospital and work on my range so I can play.

Find the Manufacturers website, download the manual, and print. The AR 15 may look overwhelmingly complicated, but its surprisingly simple in its design. Look on Youtube, theres a bunch of videos on how to field strip a AR 15, how to clean it, and lubrication process.
