I've left an Aimpoint Pro on for quite awhile but not like some of the folks that claim to have left them on over a year. But they do seem to last for a very long time. The additional benefit I see with Aimpoint Pro is that that the sight can be used with the endcaps in the closed position (if you use both eyes). The rear cap is see-thru. Might be useful when you're in a hurry or in a very wet situation (although Aimpoints are water tested to some 150 feet). Night vision compatible.

Did I mention I like Aimpoints?

I think generally that Eotech is more common in law enforcement, since it is cheaper, and probably better for CQB that is really close up (i.e. swat house raids). And Aimpoint is more common in the military because it is more durable, and probably better for longer range engagement, as well as CQB. Both are used in both LE and military for certain, and both are good.

Aimpoint has exceptional battery life because it is just a red dot. i leave mine on at all times, since the battery will last years when left on 24/7. This is great since it will certainly never shut itself off or die in the middle of action. Eotech has a more elaborate design that displays perhaps hundreds of dots, and therefore has a much shorter battery life, and requires auto shutoff after several hours.

A lot does have to do with user preference. To be totally honest it may take a few hundred-thousand rounds to get used to it. Make sure that when you are shooting you are shooting from a comfortable, easily repeatable stance. Keep shooting!
