I am in the market for my next firearm and am giving serious thought on S&W 1911pd. I have read really good things about it but was wondering if anyone here has had any trigger time with this firearm? Also does anyone know what a good price would be on something like this? And is there any other route I should consider going for a 4.25 inch 1911 or comparable lengths in the 800-1000 dollar range? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I have a commander sized Smith 1911Sc that I am very happy with. Only bad thing I can say about it is that the bluing seems a little thin.

I own the same as clt46910 and it is a wonderful 1911 i think you would be happy with the purchase. I was. The blueing does fade quicky with the scandium frames though. As far as finding one Elmores in Greenwood,IN usally has plenty on hand give them a call i am sure they are on the list of Indiana gun shops thread

I've never shot one, but I have a new one for sale in the case. Where are you in Southern Indiana?

I have two of the PD's. One is a just the basic 1911 4.25" and the other is the Gunsite model. I have about 700 rounds through each and have never had a problem. They are a lot lighter to carry than my full size steel guns. I think they are well made and have no issues with the external extractor. I have also run about a 100 rounds of hollow point ammo through each also. Smith and Wesson customer service is also very good if needed.

    Is the scandium frame anodized?

I am not sure if it is anodized but it is coated and so far both guns the finish has held up well.

On cost on the pd's, the basic pd was around $850 and the Gunsite model I bought used at $745. These were both purchased this year in January.

I received a Guniste 1911PD for free last year. Didn't care for the external extractor, loose trigger or firing pin safety. Sold it and put the procedes towards a cutom Caspian Commander that is being built for me by Ray Saltzman.

They are coated but they do show alittle more wear on the rails of the slide more than a steel 1911 does but nothing extreme. Heck guns are meant to be shot and wear.
