Guys, seriously, this news does not suggest that Muslims are taking over the country. It's reaffirming that the democratic process is doing its job -- representing its people.

That's what makes this incident so chilling. We, as a nation, are changing into something that will ultimately destroy us.... and we're doing it every time we step into the voting booth. The laws of the U.S. are slowly being supplanted by the Multi-National laws of the U.N. and the constant chipping away from our enemies. Our own system will bring this country down.

and before everyone gets toooo excited about ohmygosh 3 out of 6 city council members are Muslim...

you do realize this is a suburb of Detroit?
Detroit has the highest Islamic population per capita in the country?
in the 2000 census, 41.1% of the city was foreign-born?
also approximately 23% of the population claims some sort of ancestry from a predominantly-Muslim nation?
and its population is only about 22,000, making it about 2/3 the size of Greenwood?

Yes I agree with you, it is working as intended.

    BUT

America in regard to immigration is supposed to be a melting pot.
They are supposed to come here and blend with this country. You don't come here
and establish a country within this country and this is what is going on in many of these areas.

The ones that landed at Ellis Island came here and became Americans.

Immigrants that arrive daily from other nations with the intention of making America their home and becoming Americans are welcome by me.

They don't need to give up their heritage but they need to respect the laws and freedoms that exist here.

Ones that come though the back door OR come here with the idea that
they are going to change this country to their own are NOT welcome in my opinion.

OH NOES! PEOPLE WHO HAVE A PERSONAL FAITH DIFFERENT THAN MINE ARE SERVING THEIR COMMUNITIES! :runaway:

Really, this just illustrates how important it is for us to ensure we're properly represented within our local, state, and federal government.

Absolutely! Folks, this here is America, where any person, regardless of race, color, religion, or anything else can go out and achieve to their potential. If you feel threatened by the fact that muslims are becoming active in the political scene in a heavily muslim area, then I am sorry.

And for everybody who is linking this to the Ft. Hood shooting, remember Oklahoma City. I know that I was horrified by what McVeigh did, and I think most on this board would tend to agree, and object to being painted with the same brush as a terrorist, simply because of our choice to exercise our rights. Kettle, I call thee black.

I know right ! Because American civilians have such a long history of terrorism don't we ?.
