The AK is what it is, an inexpensive, mass produced military weapon which was designed in the late 40's. It was designed to be easily produced, maintained (ask any 6 year old Somalian kid) and operates in many inhospitable conditions. It was never intended for superior accuracy. Sure some of them came together when the stars aligned perfectly and they do show better than average accuracy but when a billion of them have been made, you will get outliers.
The whole Communist way of thinking was not to have the best but to have the most. It's a great SHTF weapon because that is what it was intended to be but beyond that...let's just say you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
