I ordered an Aimpoint t-1 on August 24, 2011. the battery was dead today. It worked last week. the battery was probably old/crappy, but it serves notice that we still need to check our battery powered devices frequently. Smoke and CO2 detectors too...

The aimpoint battery life persuasion argument is a moot point

I bought and installed a KAC T1 battery cap so I now carry a spare on the optic itself.

:yesway: that's exactly where I got the replacement battery from. And then I rotated a fresh Sony into it.

It's not so much the battery life itself, but rather the fact that the long battery life allows for the optic to be run ON constantly-- opposed to an EOTech that has an auto-shutoff that won't even allow it to be on constantly.

I don't know any Aimpoint guys running 4.5 years on their battery just to test the technology. :n00b:

For combat I agree. For things that unexpectedly go bump in the night I've grown fond of having the dot on when I pick it up. Would it have been on last night? :dunno: But it was on all the time till very recently. At any rate, I see the fact that it was dead as a failure on my part, not the Aimpoint. Had I changed it 4 months ago (after only a year of being on) we wouldn't be talking about it.

I still prefer the EoTech reticle, and I'm faster with it. But I admit that the rifle with the t-1 lives next to the bed... I'm faster with an Aimpoint that's on than an Eotech that's off.

I fell the same way.. Unless your in combat, it's a non issue for me. Just change them once a year and be done with it. If I need some home or personnel protection, I'll be using a hand gun anyway, with iron sights.

I sure don't see how this makes it a moot point. I want an optic that I can leave on 24/7 for an extended period of time. (meaning a year or more.) This means Trijicon or Aimpoint. Those are the only two I will use on what I consider my serious use weapons. The Aimpoint battery life persuasion argument may be a moot point to you but is very definitely a defining factor for others.
